The Arsecast Double Feature

By: Tim

On: February 6th, 2007

arsecastYour regular show (which is always loaded with lots of fun and swearing), plus the special one hour interview with Nick Tipping (Moonpod Games) – who is actually still programming from his bedroom.

Some games mentioned: G-Force, Blast Miner, La-Mulana, Super Columbine RPG and more.

Edit: There’s a prize to be won by listening to this episode, so don’t miss it. (hint: it’s a copy of Mr. Robot)

“Posted by Tim about one hour from now”

    Wow. That’s bloody impressive!

Can’t wait to listen to this. The Arsecast is the only thing in my dreary, monotonous life that makes the pain go away.

  • http://kwickfix.org Rz.

I was going to say something witty, but I just love The Arsecast Host.

  • http://www.TScreative.net BMcC

Yeah, mad props to the The Arsecast Host (as we say in the States).

Can’t wait to hear his take on La-Mulana.

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

Thankyou, but sadly its just a “news” (the use of that word gets more and more inaccurate the laxer and laxer my release dates get) bit about the translation and how I couldn’t wait to play the game. Proper review next month, but suffice to say, it’s ace, as you all know already.

  • Aha

Last of the Bedroom Coders. :'(

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

    American btw. ;)

  • http://www.moonpod.com/diary Fost

It always makes me laugh that – saying you work out of a bedroom is nothing to be proud about. You might as well call yourself: ‘last of the tramp coders’. It’s particularly fun though when you are on the phone to Nintendo and there’s a child in the house who’s decided to throw a tantrum, which also sends the dog completely nuts. :(

  • Aha

Well at least they’re the last. We won’t have to worry about any more in the future!

  • haowan

I’d be happy to work out of my bedroom if someone paid me. Hells yeah

  • haowan

    Wait, that came out wrong.

    Wait, I’m not coming out!

    Achhh…

  • haowan

So anyway, does that mean we can expect Starscape on Wii VC, Fost?

  • http://www.moonpod.com/diary Fost

At this exact moment in time, we have no plans for Starscape, Mr. Robot or SexVixen3000 (Random codename for our next project) on Wii, 360 or PS3. We’ve spoken to all the console manufacturers and I think there are opportunities for us, but we just aren’t in a position to spend the time working on it right now.

A shame, because I’d really love to get Mr. Robot on a console and put a lot of work in to make the editor usable with a pad. Due to its block-based nature, it could certainly work.

    Oh well, maybe someday…

  • haowan

Good luck. Starscape on XBLA would be instabuy.

  • http://www.moonpod.com/diary Fost

Yeah, I know it’s me saying this, but I wish there was more stuff *like* Starscape on XBLA, even if it wasn’t Starscape.

Trouble for us, is I think the UI needs a lot of work to be XBLA ‘spec’. Kind of depressing, since the game was original designed around running on a console.

Here’s some mockups we made of StarscapeX if anyone is interested:

StarscapeX achievements on the XBLA dashboard
Boss attack with Aegis assistance in widescreen
Xenohunter – an unreleased capital ship
    XBLA spec ship construction screen
    Danger Node

The competition question is too hard :(

  • Tim

wait a minute. how come i’m sharing an award with bob, and i can’t share one with tigs?

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII conspiracy!!! :D

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

You ain’t sharing one! That’s why I say “our last pair of awards” and not “our last award is for two people as they’re too crappy to deserve one each”. ;)

  • Tim

anything to avoid re-recording the show, eh. ;)

still, great ep as usual. the interview is a rather special bonus. :D

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

My heart sinks whenever I realise that I need to re-record stuff because its a hassle getting the house nice and quiet. Luckily the only bits I had to re-record this time were my singing bits because the first time I didn’t do it while listening to the music and the timing was completely off.

I know this is sad, but I thought I sounded not too bad singing Summer Holiday… :P

  • http://www.merseyremakes.co.uk/gibber Oddbob

By not too bad you mean “put the cat down” ?

  • Jason

Holy crap, my name was mentioned in the thanks section at the end, for “using the podcast as a sexual stimulant.”

I think I may have messed myself.

All in all, a good episode. I’m eagerly awaiting the next, though I’ll probably be a deaf and decrepit, old man by then. Perhaps my grandchildren will like it.

  • http://16x16.org nenad

Are there “Arsecast [X] Award” banners available for award winers to put on their websites?

    :p

  • http://www.merseyremakes.co.uk/gibber Oddbob

Just cut out the photo of DDD gargling a twix from RR and slap a “He loves me” banner across it.

    Sorted ;)

Great episode this month btw. I’ve neglected to mention that yet but both me and Mrs Bob enjoyed it muchly.

  • Tim

This should have it’s own thread on RR.

    Metal Gear Santa? hohoho :D

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

Make one yerself, Nenad. And it has to have a picture of an arse on it. ;)

  • http://16x16.org nenad

Now you got me. I can’t decide between arse and a twix gargling head. Bollocks, I’m into procrastinating loop again. Maybe if two motives are merged somehow… :D

  • http://16x16.org nenad

I’ve put episode 6 on my mp3 player and listening to it when walking around. Caught myself giggling in public on several occasions.

Some subtleties can be perceived only after 3 or more hearings ;)

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

How about a twix stuck up someone’s bottom? :)

And good Lord, I thought I was the only one who listened to it more than once… ;)

  • http://www.tscreative.net BMcC

Guess what I learned today! DrDerekDoctors == Graham Goring == The Arsecast Host. Thanks for being AS CONFUSING AS POSSIBLE. As if your accent wasn’t enough! :)

So, what’s your take on La-Mulana so far? I had a little trouble getting in to it at first, but now that I’m in, boy am I in!

  • Eric Vaughn

    I WON AN AWARD! :D

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

It’s rock hard, but now that I have the grail its much better. Still have no idea what to do next in it, mind. The puzzles are maybe a little too inobvious. Still, enjoying it a lot. There, that saves me a review next month. ;)

    And well done Eric! :)

  • Derek

    That was a great Arsecast!

And I swear to Kenta Cho I’m not saying that just because TIGSource got “Best Blog.” ;)

  • Tim

Sure Derek, rub it in! :D

  • http://www.arsecast.com DrDerekDoctors

Ta’, but Kenta Cho! Bah! BAAAAAH!
