Open Transport TycoonAnother game night!

But first, an explanation!

Last game night, I posted a screenshot! Obviously not from the cited source, and I feel the obligation to set that straight: It’s from Wolfire’s Lugaru 2.

Alas! I was misled by that damned brain (cough)of mine(cough).

This game night, we’re probably gonna play Soldat and Jet Set Willy Online again.
And MAYHAPS some OpenTTD (pictured).

As usual, if you wanna play, join IRC tomorrow. It will probably start around 1800-2200GMT.

Did anyone play OpenTTD last time? If so, how was it? Looked intruiging, but I didn’t know if I wanted to dive headfirst into it.

    Wooooooo Game Night!

  • muted

as far as i know OpenTTD didn’t happen…

  • Nillo

I’ll probably be away this time :( but I’m not sure. Anyway, when are we gonna play Savage? That is one kickass freeware title.

  • Gr.Viper

FreeCiv? FreeCol? At least the first one can be set up for a quick game.
    Or Armagetron Advanced even?

  • Stwelin

    Or “Legends: The Game”

A freeware title based on the Tribes 2 engine. Sorta dumbed down gameplay. No vehicles, and only a few pack types, but still very fun.

Um I don’t know how to use IRC… but I’m down for some Soldat.

  • raigan

i need to get in on some Soldat, i haven’t played since around 1.2!!

    so.. how does this work?

  • http://[email protected] Joseph King

hmm so should I download mIRC? How does it work anyways?

Speaking of FreeCiv and FreeCol, there don’t seem to be many nice indy strategy projects on the old-style trading/conquering bandwagon. I tried FreeCol one time and found it way too stale in comparison to the original (three windows of color selection, clutchy town interfaces, etc. Hell, it acts like an old MacOS multimedia disc!). I heard the same about FreeCiv and keep using emulators for Settlers / Master of Magic and the like.
Aren’t there autistic programmers left, who keep a simple game aside from the mediocre open-source-everybody-get’s-it’s-will projects? Dwarf Fortress left aside. Ah yes, there was a guy trying to remake Burntime, if I remember correctly.

  • Gr.Viper

Recent vesions of both FC got better. A lot is improved. But they lack the charm of original games and could certainly use more art to liven up their interface.

Hm, that’s what I’m talking about; I found the graphics quite pretty, even better than the original. It’s more that the menus are – probably for development reasons – very modular, they make the gaming experience quite distant. If you use the encyclopedia, for example, it’s like browsing through a windows help file; one has the impression, that the window wasn’t made just for the actual game descriptions, it has plenty of space all over, the characters are very small, the background is left clean to easly insert new graphics; all in the hope of easily expanding the game. And who needs three color models for the player profile?

  • Gr.Viper

Oh, that… Yeah, menus in Col look like one-size-fits-all kind. Filled for some reports, empty for others. Maybe they’ll fix that before 1.0.0. :) Guess there are more important issues now.

  • rz.

someone post dem required files for openttd plz

  • Zmann

I thought Free-Civ was rather polished and pretty good.

  • Derek

The IRC link on the side now goes to a page that should explain things for people. ;)

Ahhh game night sounds like fun! I haven’t played Soldat in a while, hopefully I don’t miss the next event!

Another fun indie game to play on game night would be Battlecity Classic! Yes, I’m shamelessly advertising my own game :(

    BattleCity Classic
