Overgrowth

Overgrowth (formerly known as Lugaru 2) has a gorgeous new website. Wolfire Games is now a five-man team and is working on the game full-time. Badass. I really can’t wait for this one. (Source: Tim)

Overwave

And OverWave is Monokey’s latest project – a vertical shoot ’em up with a brand new game engine that will come out before Force Majeure (which will also use said engine). (Source: the2bears)

There’s only concept art available for both these games right now, but jeez, it looks good. I got high expectations already!

  • ChevyRay

Whoa, I love the art for that game.

  • PHeMoX

Yeah, the rabbit ninja/assassin/mutant whatever looks so awesome!

  • Valkyrie

I remember some of the tech blogs Wolfire posted in his blog. It’ll be cool to see everything come together.

And, really, one can’t have enough vertical shumps.

  • crackers

Concept art like this makes it easy to have your hopes dashed for the final product(s). Which would be a shame really, let’s all will the games to be excellent.

  • Mike

    My word. Stupendous!

  • David Rosen

Aubrey Serr (Wolfire artist) is doing all of the in-game art as well as the concept art, so it should all be up to the same level!

  • wormguy

Yeah, the website for Overgrowth is extremely well done.

  • gsm

That second picture looks like somebody who learned how to paint by studying the “watercolor” filter in photoshop.

Okay, that’s a bit harsh, it does look pretty neat if I get over the artificiality of the brush strokes.

  • wormguy

Quick suggestion: It might not be a bad idea to add Overgrowth to the DevRoll.

  • Gregoin

wow, that site isn’t even Flash — it’s done in javascript.

  • deadeye

    Furries and animes *rolleyes*

j/k, the concept art is pretty damn nice for both of those games.

  • soupy

    Is Lugaru a furry?
    No. He’s just a badass.

  • cecil

the art looks good. but all the screenies are concept art at the looks of it.

it says 3d action game. but i see no ACTUAL game screens of 3d anything. unless those somehow ARE game screens and models. then that would be A – MAZING.

  • Kovksi

I’ve been following up on the Wolfire Blog every since I found out about Lugaru (the first part).
I was already afraid that part two would die like so many other projects, but it’s great to see that they picked it up again!
Best luck and mounds of success to the whole team!

  • Kovksi

btw cecil: check out their blog for what they have done so far. quite a lot of technology, but nothing to really show off in a gallery like this.
But since there are five people now working full-time on it I suppose it won’t take long until it’s updated with some in-game goodness. ;)

  • RayRayTea

    “… and animes *rolleyes*”

    Uh, where? I’m confused…

  • haowan

He means the anime style characters in the Overwave concept art.

  • RayRayTea

Hm, yes, I know what he means, but I don’t see it… oh well. Maybe it was meant as a joke (“animes” sounds like it).

I was also often accused of it at the place where I used to work a few years ago – to this day I’m completely clueless what they were talking about.

  • cuntface

    Bring on the furries!

  • Medieval

It’s really fucking badass that Overgrowth’s website has all the moving shit without flash.

and Overgrowth is badass by itself, anyway.

  • BeamSplashX

Overgrowth looks like those Redwall books with bigger balls.

  • Derek

BeamSplashX: I couldn’t have said it better myself. And I freakin’ love Redwall! <3

  • Phasma Felis

I made a bet with myself when I saw the newspost that someone would be snarking about furries within the first 10 comments.

Well, I was wrong. It was #11. <rolleyes>

And “anime”? Man, what is it with anything that doesn’t look like superheroes or Hanna-Barbera being “anime” these days? Looks more like the old Madeline picture books than anything out of Japan.

    (Okay, done ranting now.)

  • IceD

    Damn straight.

Overwave reminds me Progear no arashi from Cave. I’ll bet the authors had some good influence :)

And Overgrowth art looks just wonderful.

    Go on!

  • Dominic White

If Overgrowth can look even half as good in action as the concept art, then I’ll be very impressed, and very happy.

The original Lugaru was an interesting little game. It played a little too fast and twitchy for my tastes, but if you can get over the internet OMGFURRYAARGAHGAGHAGHHGH reaction, the story and setting are pretty cool, actually.

A bit like Watership Down meets Conan the Barbarian.
