Edmund

The results of the Adult/Educational Competition are in (and have been for a while now, sorry about that)! This was a super-close race between Edmund and Back Door Man, with the former winning by two votes. Congratulations to Farmergnome for winning the grand prize with his controversial game.

The top ten entries were:

1. Edmund – 72 (17.7%)

2. Back Door Man – 70 (17.2%)
3. I HAVE CANDY GET IN THE VAN – 47 (11.5%)
4. Super Cock Blockers – 44 (10.8%)
5. Jirosum – 33 (8.1%)

6. Mr. Jones’ Dream – 26 (6.4%)
7. I Love You 2 – 22 (5.4%)
8. Dildo Tank the First Squirt – 13 (3.2%)
9. Manfred Mansfield and the Invasion of the Alien Men – 12 (2.9%)
10. Sheets – 11 (2.7%)

You can find the full breakdown here. Once again, please be aware that some of these games depict graphic pixel-on-pixel intercourse and are possibly inappropriate for young children, depending on how tight-assed their parents are. Make note of what category the game belongs to before you play.

Does anyone love stats? Here are some: of the top 10 games, 8 were of adult nature, 1 was educational, and 1 was both. Proving once again that people enjoy sex more than they enjoy learning. But everyone loves video games.

Thanks to all the participants! This was a crazy one, and the next one might be crazier. See you next time!

  • Bobby Smiles

Don’t you mean EPIC CARE FAIL LOL?

  • Consensus

Bobby, I think you need to leave.

  • Slather

Ms. Smiles, I belittle no one. You don’t seem to understand that the game isn’t about rape, and doesn’t make light of rape either(nor do I): the real choice is self-acceptance or death. It’s not a joke. See the Edmund thread to talk about it.

I’d say the game elicited an emotional response from the people who hated it, more than anyone else. Mission success?

  • rumrusher

    hyudra wasn’t backdoorman in 2nd?
where the love for the manwhore who beat the pedophile and gangbang sporting event.
yeah he lost by 2 votes to a man who looks like a skinny dr.light and his yellow nightcrawler friend/cab stealing rapist. /nambackdoormanNo one pay attention to the Whore! I’m in the shadow of a yellow man.So 1 sex scene with a dialog that leads to rape is enough to beat my 3 tales. /flag352/nameddieWhat a Panzy/nam/hugh jackman yeah… can you tell me where I can find bambit/nameddiehe’s five clicks to the north/hugh jackmanthanksjackman away!…buy my dvd!

/namrumrushernow if only I can make a thread for edmund script changes like the thread for spulunky levels.to bad that idea won’t work out so well with all this negative karma shooting from this game. and no one would waste time playing the nam scene just to see a ed shot out arnold quotes.

Half of these comments are trash. Go pontificate in the Edmund thread on the forums.

Congratulations to the winners and big ups to every entry. I had fun playing them all!

If I take away anything from this compo, it’s that low-exposure games need some form of solo mode; I think being essentially 4-player-minimum knocked us out of the top three. Even a practice dummy could’ve helped, but we were short on time.

  • Cesque

It’s not about controversy to me, it’s about meh gameplay >.< (okay, I'll shuddup now)

  • wtf

OMG like how could Edmund win, it’s a game about rape. That’s sick. THis site is so fucked up.

i’m leaving this site forever, get away from me you rapist sympathizers

  • kongming

Meh, only thing Edmund had going for it was the graphics and sounds. It’s quite hamfisted, doesn’t make much sense, and is not fun to play. Broaching the subject of rape in a game semi-seriously should not be an automatic ticket to winning the compo.

Also I find j’s comments much more thoughtful than most of the whitenoise you idiots are posting. “Pretentious dribble”, Nicholas? Really? That’s the laziest, most meaningless criticism ever. wtf, you leave that poor strawman alone.

  • O

Kids, don’t say “strawman” on the internet unless you’re really sure you know what it means.

  • kongming

Like, you guys could actually step back and take a moment to think about what kind of messages, ex- or implicit, a game like Edmund sends, but no, you’d rather call j “pretentious” and act like he’s some kind of Puritan than actually reflect for five seconds. That’s sad.

  • kongming

Okay O, why don’t you tell me what you think strawman means.

  • Anthony Flack

“Meh, only thing Edmund had going for it was the graphics and sounds. It’s quite hamfisted, doesn’t make much sense, and is not fun to play. Broaching the subject of rape in a game semi-seriously should not be an automatic ticket to winning the compo.”

I’d generally agree with the above. Although I can’t say I’m surprised that the most-publicised entry won by popular vote. That’s why serious competitions have voting panels, but hey, this isn’t a serious competition.

What is frustrating is that instead of talking about all the other interesting entries, discussion around this compo seems to be stuck in an endless Edmund loop that goes nowhere.

It’s nice to see that more than a few people understand that being controversial for the sake of being controversial really isn’t that interesting. Too bad there’s still a massive portion of the readership who thinks that means we don’t “understand” games like Edmund. It’s not like there’s a whole lot there that hasn’t been done a thousand times before.

  • Anthony Flack

I don’t think that’s really fair, either. It wasn’t my personal favourite, but there were things I liked about it (things that had nothing to do with its “controversial” elements).

And it seems to me that the controversy was pretty much all generated externally, anyway.

  • O

Hey Kongming, if you want to try to obfuscate that display of ignorance by turning it into a semantic argument you’ll have to do it alone.

    Or you could educate yourself.

  • kongming

Okay, so you don’t know what strawman means and/or you can’t tell me why I’m wrong.

  • kongming

“OMG like how could Edmund win, it’s a game about rape. That’s sick. THis site is so fucked up.

i’m leaving this site forever, get away from me you rapist sympathizers”

Seriously, nobody made this fucking argument. It’s a textbook strawman (also a bad troll). I guess if you were retarded you might think j’s posts kind of sort of look like this one.

  • QQ

i hope some of you sick cunts get raped in jail – or juvenille detention guaging by the maturity of this whole excercise.

  • Edmund was one of the weakest games of the compo, a 30 second paper-thin morality message drawn out to 5 minutes with pointless platforming. Perhaps everyone was too busy ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the lovely grain filter and heavy atmosphere to realize that there isn’t anything underneath.

  • Lucifer

I’m wining as usual, but Edmund was pretty forgettable, aside from its controversial nature and a few artsy elements. Besides I’d also like to share a recent experience I had while searching for an online platform to learn how to code. I came across a website called School of Coding one day while scrolling through Google. They also offer government-funded courses for kids and adults. You can easily access any class from anywhere by joining their online E-Learning Courses. The course should take ten days to complete.
