Captain Impostor

Farbs just released the latest episode of his Captain Forever series, called Captain Impostor (available for all registered players). CI puts you at the helm of The Narcissus, a new type of ship that’s powered by a CLONE DRIVE. The CLONE DRIVE lets you steal entire ships and make them your own. However, the strength of the parts cloned depends on how much clone power you have. Destroy other ships to raise your clone power!

So far I’m enjoying the cloning mechanic, but the lack of construction makes it a little less interesting than Successor, in my opinion. I’m still waiting for a more cohesive world and story, but I don’t know if that’s in the cards or not. In any case, it’s fun to see the series evolve and try new things.

    Yah, Impostor was supposed to be a little two week development experiment but with all the balancing and finetuning it spiralled out of control. If you go back to Forever or Successor you’ll notice that they’re much slower with more prolonged combat.

    Next episode should move more forwards than sideways.

    I like Imposter, but it doesn’t feel like a game for sinking into. You end up back at the start without too much loss or emotion. There’s no part hunting, but I like the style.

    i like how impostor is consistently misspelled as imposter in this post

    The problem with successor is that after you destroy a ship there are not many parts left for the taking,(like when you have a badass battlecruiser that completely obliterates the other ships all thats left are girders and no weapons, cause the weapons are usually destroyed first) the clone drive kind of fixes that.

    For the next one maybe make it so that when a girder is destroyed the weapons attached to it are not destroyed, maybe make the weapons and engine parts a lot stronger so that the girders blow up first and you can collect the weapons afterwards. Maybe even make all the parts that are not girders or shields undestructible.

    This new game mode appeals to my lazy self. I love it in fact!

    So rad.

    @googoogjoob: Derek doesn’t like to read. Will fix!

    This seems like a neat experiment. I’m all for a series exploring fun tangents.

  • Derek

    Reading is for women and fags.

    But in all seriousness, thanks for the spelling catch and fix!

  • Kinten

    Wow, that’s a comment I never thought I’d hear coming from you, Derek.

  • Melly

    Doubt he meant it seriously.

    the game looks interesting. I really like the artistic style.

    Also, the forums are innaccessible for me. D:

    @Kinten:

    Hehe, sorry. Some troll said that about Aquaria once and I still think it’s kinda funny (in a horrible way). I love reading!

  • Dodger

    This looks great. The trailer had me tripping out though when blinking between the two ships! Felt like I was having an acid relapse. ;-P

    @Derek
    I know you weren’t serious, and it was kind of silly of me to even comment on your post.
    The problem is that I hold the indie community in such a high esteem,
    I believe it to be in the forefront of all parts of society.
    Using derogative words for a certain sexuality as a way to slander something, even in an ironic situation, just seems so ignorant.
    I think my reaction has to do with the fact that I’ve seen way to many “that’s so gay” kind of comments in the forum lately.
