DrPetter has released version 1.0 of Sculptris, his free 3d modelling tool! This release lets you to paint color, textures, and bump maps right onto the model. Time to play!

That there are people talented enough to be able to deliver software like this, developed ALONE.

Holy shit. THIS SO PRO, BRO

  • Levi

This is absolutely amazing. Makes me wish I could program 3D games to use the models in

  • bateleur

    This really does look superb.

In fact, I'm going to make a 3D game just so I can play with this!

  • Bob

    Wow, that's really impressive!

    Nice work, DrPetter!

  • Jonathan

FUN! Fun will be had by me. I'm amazed this is free.

  • Dimma

This is so cool, thanks for sharing!

  • Wenis Martin

DrPetter – one man tool-chain. (As in workflow…)

  • Secret Admirer

The Good Doctor always knows what's best for you.

    Incredible… Wow!

  • rinkuhero

yeah, that's almost like making a game all by yourself

  • CraigStern

This program has really come a long way! I'm impressed. Maybe one of you who has tried this out can say, since I couldn't find much info about it on the site: what file formats does it export models and textures as?

The download is 3mb, you probably would find the answers more fast by downloading it

This was done by one person? Wow, that is incredibly impressive… it looks like it would be a ton of fun to play around with too :P

Amazing, easy to jump into and fun to use.

  • PhasmaFelis

I think those guys got a cover story in GameBro.

the video looks amazing, but scrupltris crashes more than often :-/ I was not able to try anything more than to touch the globe :-/

  • nullerator

This is actually impressive, and very enjoyable to work with. Thanks, DrPetter!

  • Kinten

I've been trying out Zbrush and been fucking frustrated by the way they've raped their on UI. With this I just started it up and was amazed at how perfect everything was. No trying to re-invent 3D-modelling interface here. Awesome.

  • PHeMoX

Very very cool and good program. I love it!

  • bombboy

I can't disagree to that, guy

  • CraigStern

Faster, yes. With less effort, no. :P

  • jumps

    thanks doc

I agree, Zbrush has a very confusing UI. Sculptris keeps it really simple, which rocks, and the learning curve is very small. DrPetter rules.

  • Jump Button

I've been using Sculptris off and on for the last 6 months, and I'm really impressed with 1.0. There were a lot of bugs and quirks in the alpha that have been resolved much more elegantly than I was expecting. And I love the new paint feature. Too bad you can't go back to sculpting once you start painting though. Still, this is a very cool program and there's almost no learning curve, which is something virtually no other 3D app has come close to.

  • PsychedelicWolf

    Sculpturis is really amazing.

A friend of mine put together a werewolf in the alpha version, he had to use another 3D program to put the 'parts' together, but the model itself was designed in Sculpturis, and I'm absolutely amazed by its detail.

That's the kind of thing Sculpturis can do.

  • Teelah

Looks great! I'm going to try to make some models for Second Life with this!

  • Hypersapien

How the HELL do you keep the mesh from turning inside out? And what do you do about it when it does?

  • Jump Button

I've never has the mesh turn inside out on me. That sounds like a perfect question to ask on the Sculptris forums.

I downloaded this and within minutes i finished a simple spaceship… I was sick of relying on other graphics modellors to continue in my games, so its great finally being able to make my own, even if they are placeholders :) thanks alot doctor petter :) not sure if they game i'm currently making is going to be free or a cheap sale game, but if the latter, you can bet i'm donating a bunch to you :)

  • Brahmedinejad

Yeah, I can imagine you could make some pretty majestic dicks with this thing.

  • http://diegofloor.com Diego

Hi there :) Just a side comment here..

“lets you to paint color, textures, and bump maps right onto the model”

Texturing is great, but the main feature is to actually *make* the model. It's a modeling software before anything else :D

    Great site, btw.

  • PHeMoX

What I dislike about the 'paint' part is that it crashes a lot when trying to enter that 'mode'.

It needs a bit bugfixing, because with sculpting it also tends to crash every few minutes or so.( Q6600, ATI HD2900XT, 4gb, Win XP)

  • Toodwarren

i cant seem to find the download

  • iggie-sculpt

If you start with a basemesh premerged in Curvy 3D you can do all the rest of the sculpting in sculptris without needing to merge the hi-res parts later.
