Snack on This: Trailers

Hey, guys, while I’m slow-roasting some game reviews (emphasis on slow), I thought you might enjoy snacking on a few trailers for upcoming games.

Cobalt is a gorgeous-looking new run n’ gun by Oxeye Studios, the creators of the RTS Harvest: Massive Encounter. This is the first official showing of the game, which has been in development for a year now. According to the developers, the game’s about another year away from release.

In Stout Games’ Dinner Date, you play the subconscious of a man who’s waiting for his date to arrive. According to the game’s website “you listen in on his thoughts while tapping the table, looking at the clock and eventually reluctantly starting to eat…” Coming out on November 17th.

Finally, VBlank Entertainment’s Retro City Rampage is coming to WiiWare in December. Over the years, the project has evolved from a homebrew NES demake of Grand Theft Auto into a more diverse action game that seems to parody a number of classic games.

The combat in Cobalt looks so fluid and fun, though I can't tell exactly how it works…

  • wedieyounge

    Cobalt is indeed impressive.

  • akachaki

Which is the best one? They all look very good.

  • Peevish

The music in Cobalt reminds me of Mr. Oizo.

  • Razz

    retro city rampage looks INSANE

You'll be incredibly surprised by the rest of the soundtrack.

I kinda… need to play Retro City Rampage now =)

I'll be the first, then, to say that Dinner Date holds the most promise in my eyes. :D

  • Mike Hunt

Not me, only since there's no normal mapping on the sleeves. I bet that's what's really going on thru the guy's mind. “What's wrong with … my sleeves?”

  • Davioware

Wow, all of these look like they've been given a lot of love.

Cobalt looks incredible! It actually got me to attempt to explain bullet timing run-and-guns to my wife. Can't wait to play. : )

Oh man, I think one of the guys who is working on cobalt worked on this:

    If only he finished it…

OMG Blue Head is alive! I'm so looking forward to that game.

Correct in that! And yeah, i really would like to finish it. Still is a bloody awesome fun game. Mayby one day =)

I think dinner date is actually the prequel to Retro City Rampage. After being stood up Julian chugs the whole bottle of wine and goes on an 8-bit hooker killing spree.

Anyways, Cobalt looks really amazing, but I'm still trying to figure out how the aiming works. Auto aim maybe?

I love the art style of Cobalt! Reminds me a little bit of the Oddworld games (which is a good thing), but at the same time it doesn't really look like any other game either. My curiosity is peaked :-)

Dinner Date sounds interesting, yet at the same time it sounds like it could be very boring as well. I'm interested in how it all plays out but I wonder how this will end up being a game. Stylistically it looks great, the graphics are very sharp, and the idea of the mans loneliness kind of reminds me of Silent Hill 4: The Room but only in terms of seclusion. Hopefully it's entertaining in some way, I can't really tell by the trailer, but I can tell that it at least look great.

Last but not least there's Retro City Rampage looks like great fun. I know it's been around in development for a while now but it's grand theft auto roots look like they were dipped into the universe of Ubisoft's Scott Pilgram vs. The World, it looks like an instant classic. I obviously can't judge the game yet but it looks perfectly suited for Nintendo's WiiWare which I will definitely buy the day it comes out. If this ended up getting a release on the Nintendo DS as a Cart (since I don't have a DSi), I'd also buy it for the DS because I think it would work well even on a handheld too. In otherwords, release if it was released on both platforms I'd buy it for both!

Judging solely on appearances, these all look fantastic.

My guess for cobalt's combat is that you can do flips and slow down time, and shoot at anytime during the flip. That's what it looked like to me at least…

I may just have to get retro city rampage for the sheer amount of retro references. cause there are a whole damn lot of them.

  • anthonyflack

Retro City Rampage is the one for me!

  • Mishi

You just want normal maps on the sleeves? There's no other normal maps that I can in this trailer. Yet you'll place judgment on the entire game because of the lack of it on the sleeves? Do you need a hug? Am I missing an inside joke here? If I am sorry.
I think the game looks interesting. I hope the theme is integrated well with the game play!

I was thinking the same thing. That song from the old Levi's ads with Flat Eric? So similar.

Wow I had totally forgotten this track. Went on TV when I was way too young. Now I'm all warm and fuzzy inside. :3
