Trailer: Krautscape

From what I gather, these are the two things you should know about the upcoming Krautscape: 1. the player in the lead builds the track, and 2. your vehicle can leave the track and glide through the air.

It doesn’t look like fun. Monotone setting.

Doesn’t do anything for me either :(

  • Kidchameleon

This looks great, any demo’s available?

I like the colour scene and the bleeding edge game play.  If they mix up the levels enough this should be cool.

So…why would anyone ever drive on the tracks if you could just fly to cut off half of the level?

Because the point of the game is to collect checkpoints. Fly and you’ll miss them. I think?

You have to hit all of the checkpoints, but you can fly off the track to skip sections between checkpoints.  The catch is that the player in the lead is creating the track as he drives (the new track sections curve left or right based on which colored lane the lead player is in), so he can’t take any shortcuts because there’s no place to take a shortcut TO.  Only the trailing players can take strategic shortcuts, including trying to predict where the lead player will direct the track and airgliding in that direction.

I think it’s a brilliant twist, and I’m really looking forward to this.  I also really love the visual style.

Stop me if I’m going crazy, but can’t the lead player just keep going in a straight line? No short-cuts and it’s impossible for him to lose the lead.

read the other comments: it’s not a race, it’s more like a collection game

Actually it’s both. You want to be first, and you have to curve the track so you run the track itself into a checkpoint, as explained here:

Awesome concept :) The gliding reminds me of Mars Explorer, which is an awesome game BTW.

Why have the lead player create any track at all? Isn’t it better to slide off the track and fly in a straight line between each checkpoint?

    1. you can’t accelerate while flying, it is not possible to fly very far.
    2. in checkpoint mode, you have to hit the checkpoint with the TRACK, so flying doesn’t really help.
    3. the checkpoint stuff is only one game mode, there will be more soon…

it’s a weird sensation between the awesome and awful, in a first moment. =
But, I think this is just a beta version, I hope what the people behind it can do a awesome work.
Anyway, congrats for the dedication and for the nice gameplay. ;)

Can’t belive peoples negativity on the front page. I mean, Seriously?

It looks fun. It’s an interesting concept. We’ll see if it’s fun to play.

    Doesn’t look fun at all…

  • 0rel

Yea, nice to see Krautscape here! I’m really looking forward to try the new version… It’s a nice concept, and I’m sure it will be a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer mode! – It’s a trailer, and AFAIK they are working really hard on it for a long time already… no reason to turn this down…

Looks really interesting! The flying mechanic sort of seems like the bullet bills in mario kart, something to keep all racers on a more even footing. What other modes are there going to be?

  • Derive

Can’t wait to try this. Reminds me of F-Zero meets SkyRoads.

  • KonradvK

The game is fantastic. There are different modes. The ping pong mode is amazing, where you have to extend the “other end of the track” before turning back to find out the quickest and most convenient way to the next end… believe me, I’ve played it and the reactions to those playing are so funny… you end up with spaghetti tracks and often you lose your sense of direction / orientation… it’s a great multiplayer game and when it comes out I urge any racing fan to at least try it… Right now the game is being tested and further developed…
