Gunpoint, by Tom Francis

Gunpoint was released on Steam yesterday. The brainchild of PC Gamer UK editor Tom Francis, Gunpoint is a stealth game where you play a freelance spy who has to steal sensitive data for his clients. To finish your missions, you’ll have a variety of gadgets at your disposal, the foremost of which is a Crosslink device that will let you rewire lights, switches, cameras and doors. The other gadgets are acquired optionally and offer the player more ways of achieving his or her goals.

This spiderman-jumping feature looks really wierd, and somehow doesn’t look to fit in the setting. Don’t you think?

Any thoughts on similarities to “stealth bastard”?

  • Daid

Very little. I own stealth bastard. And I played the Gunpoint demo. Stealth bastard gives you very little room for innovation, there is 1 proper solution. While gunpoint gives you a bunch of tools and things, and then you can figure out your own solution to the problem. And there are many solutions possible.

The levels in gunpoint usually boil down to opening certain doors to get to those boxes so you can open more specific doors that will get you to the objective. You can’t really deviate from it that much, but you can kind of deal with guards in different ways using the gadgets.

And the word you were looking for was creativity not innovation.

It’s down to the protagonist’s new pair of BULLFROG-brand hypertrousers, the only gadget you start the game with.

    No, seriously.

sorry, can’t really get the irony or whatever. Damned we non-native english speaker… ;)
btw, looking to play a demo before expressing myself again on the supertrousers
p.s. I’m totally ok with the Portal magic fall-proof shoes. Whatever for the gameplay!
