Halo RTS RTCanned!

Halo RTS

Did you know that Halo was originally designed to be an RTS? But then they made it into a FPS. WTF?

Then three years ago some people started working on a mod for Command and Conquer Generals to recreate Halo as an RTS. But recently Microsoft sent them a cease and desist letter.

I’ll never understand why people try to make mods like this. Three years spent working on a game (for free, no less!), only to have the project canned with a single email. It’s like taking your neighbors’ kid and then raising it as your own for three years, only to have them be like, “WTF, that’s MY kid!” and then take them back. And there’s nothing you can do because it really isn’t your kid, even though you invested three years’ of time into it.

You should have had your own kid! Or “licensed” one legally through an adoption center. You know what I mean?

Wow, what a shame. Looks like they had created someo REALLY nice content there.

Rename everything, tweak the skins of some blatantly obvious objects etc, change the name of the project and keep working on it/release it.

Yeah, Al3x, I never get why they don’t do that. Derek has a point, still.

Why not create ‘spiritual’ mods/sequels/etc. from the start? :-

From the same ppl who loved Halo 2D… This makes me think M$ is up to something. Could we be seeing an official Halo RTS?

Besides, they dropped the coolest part of Halo (The FPS one) out, namely the MMO part (which at one time was going to be the whole game).

    RIP real Halo.

    Halo? What’s that? ;)

  • Hunty

yes! I’ve always thought the exact same thing (except without the handy “kid” analogy).

WTF is with people pouring huge amounts of time and money into what amounts to a copyright violation when it takes a whole 30 seconds to come up with an original IP???

So much for M$ believing in indie game creators and pushing forth XNA. I suggest you change names and resources and turn it into a parody.
