defcon to be pretty good, probably

my friend andrew gray recently had the chance to talk to introversion about defcon, their upcoming nuclear holocaust simulator. the result is a four-page spread in pc power play magazine.

“I think the stylized graphics of our games has become one of our trademarks,” chris delay told andy. “Making games with unique art styles like Darwinia and DEFCON also has a big advantage: your game instantly stands out from the crowd and can be recognized from a single screenshot….Some companies spend millions of dollars trying to get that exact effect by making their games extremely realistic – but there’s only so far you can go with that.”

speaking of darwinia, they spoke about darwinia: ”...the second demo took us four months to create – all for just one level with about an hour’s gameplay!” defcon will be closer to uplink in that it won’t rely on stage-based gameplay and scripted events. in fact, it won’t have a single-player mode at all, though ai opponents will be available.

the game sounds pretty swell – installations reveal themselves when they fire on enemy installations, after which point you can expect retaliatory fire to obliterate you. everybody loses, “you just have to make sure you lose the least!”

there’s more, including more info about the game’s unit types than you need to know before the game is released, and you can read it yourself in the september issue of pc power play, currently on newstands – in australia and new zealand.

Awesome, there’s a trailer over at Eurogamer if anyone’s curious, or if it’s not as old as Jesus riding bareback on a dinosaur… I’ve been kind of outta the loop for a while.

http://www.eurogamer.net/tvvideo.php?playlistid=731

Gotta love the tagline though!

He does have a point, but not in the way he thinks.

There does seem to be quite alot of apocalypse and post-apocalypse games and modifications recently.

NO!:

As I was going to the fair of Dingle one fine morning last July,
A fine young man came up behind me “Red Haired Mary” he did cry.

“Will you come with me my Red Haired Mary, the donkey he can carry two”, I looked at him me eyes did twinkle, me cheeks they were a rosy hue.

“Thank you kindly sir” I answered, then I tossed me light red hair, Says I “will you hold the donkey and I’ll ride with you to the Dingle fair”.

Oh when we reached the town of Dingle, he caught me hand to say goodbye, When a tinker he came up behind him and hit him right in his left eye.

NO!:

Please take your self-righteous moralising back where it belongs: Your short-sighted, impotent confines of your depleted intellect. You’re not big, you’re not important, and you as hell aren’t consequential.

If you insist on that nigga hard penis sim, though: http://thefriendsociety.com/anim.php?id=junglecock&w=500&h=400

NO:

Hm. Last time I checked Defcon wasn’t slated to have an FPS mode where you go around shooting people with hyperbolated gore physics, but I’m a bit slow. Rather, it looks to be an immersive and up-and-coming game.

Nuclear holocaust simulator? WTF! Make a ‘nigga hard penis’ simulator and stick it up yer ass instead! What’s with this wave of lame games about destruction, murdering and shit? There must be a lot of powerless nerds and social outcasts that need some way of catharsis to virtually take revenge over the world that has degraded’em for being stupid. Get a life losers!
