Mark Healey

Mark Healey, creator of the innovative and kind-of-fun fighting game Rag Doll Kung Fu, has left Lionhead Studios to start his own indie game development company with a few other ex-Lionhead vets. The company, Media Molecule, is currently working on an undisclosed game which they plan on pitching to publishers within the next three months.

You may recall that Lionhead Studios was acquired by Microsoft recently. (However, rumors that Peter Molyneux’s head has been grafted onto Bill Gates’ chest have been largely unfounded.)

We’ll see what comes out of it.

why in god’s name would they even bother with pitching to publishers when they’ve demonstrated they can make games without one?!

  • Chris

Because Steam IS a publisher by Valve, they still have to go through the whole process sorting out deals and whatnot, just that it’s all digital and rather better for the developers.

so? sell direct online. Thats what I do. Publishers are a nightmare.

“they’ve demonstrated they can make games without one?!”

I was repsonding to this ^

  • raigan

well.. Valve is just distributing/marketing the game via Steam. yes, technically they’re publishing it, but the phrase “pitching to publishers” implies the usual “get project green-lit by publisher, get big advance, make big-budget retail game”.

my point was really that it seems like a step backward.
