Limbo

Limbo is a game that people have been talking about recently, although I hesitate to call it a game yet, since my impression right now is that it’s nothing more than an idea and some beautiful conceptual artwork. The trailer just doesn’t look like in-game footage. Although it would be awesome if it was!

Word on the street is that Arnt Jensen, the game’s creator, has a grant from the Danish government to work on the game and is currently seeking a C/C++ programmer. What either of those facts says about the status of game’s development is a mystery to everyone.

Now this is a game I’d want to play! No singing lobsters in sight!

It looks cool, but I also haven’t talked about it since it doesn’t really seem to be… anything yet.

Oh my gosh, what a beautiful teaser!

It’s certainly possible the game could look like this. And if it did… ::drools::

I’M SO TURNED ON RIGHT NOW

    WHO WANTS TO SMOOCH?

    me :)

The animation looks great – but as you say, it’s clearly just a video and not game footage.

This looks similar in some ways to Another World – dark, moody and very alien. Should be good, if anything comes of it…

    Don’t care. Want game.

If the game actually played like the footage, it’d be some horrible Dragon’s Lair Quicktime Event crap. But if it doesn’t, then it could be an ICO-like journey of loveliness. My only fear is that with one dude doing the art it’d be as short as Danny Devito.

If it played like the video, it would be more like an Another World kinda shindig, but some would argue that wasn’t much more interactive than Dragon’s Lair. They would be wrong, but it’s certainly trial/error heavy.

In other news, I thought Ico was incredibly dull. SotC is totally the pimps boots though.

    refreshingly impressive looking

I can easily picture animation reaching this state. It would be indeed awesome if the game played like this, and I hope it does, but let’s not get excited. The first scene in the teaser was impressive though, and it would be nice to see it at least play with mysterious tones and contrasts in this manner.

Looks amazing, I hope it gets somewhere. Probably inspired by that ‘Jasper Morello’ short film, or Michael Gagne’s books and animations.

  • Dan MacDonald

If you look at the mainstream game Assassins Creed, their animation approches this level of interaction but in a fully 3d environment.
