Polychromatic Funk Monkey

polychromatic funk monkey

Polychromatic Funk Monkey made it’s way to the feedback section of our forums, and boy, is it swell! Pick up color blocks and drop them to get to higher areas. Collect “telefunks” to increase the number of blocks you carry (to a total of 10). Telefunks also serve as warp nodes, and trust me, you’ll need to warp back and forth plenty as you’ll often get stuck.

This game grew on me like a mold. There were countless times I thought I’d trapped myself for good, or had no good way up, only to find that, with a little ingenuity I… could… do it! The levels are randomly generated, so I wonder if it is ever possible to get completely stuck. But regardless, the feeling of accomplishment at making it to the next telefunk is tremendous.

Clever game, great presentation. The only thing missing is some actual funk. Where’s James Brown at?

    Lovely.

I like the 70’s theme of the platforms and how the “monkey” looks like a 2D Cubivore.

    Kindof fun :)
lots of different approaches and stuff to discover!
And the telefunkers prevent you from getting stuck like I did twice …
    awesome!

The more I play this, the more enchanted I am with it!

I just like rapidly teleporting around, making myself nauseous. Brill game it is.

    UH! Yeah, it’s brilliant.

    AAOW! Get down!

I spoke with James Brown’s office about this game and tried to negotiate for the godfather himself to do the music. Unfortunately we discovered that this would conflict with his scheduled tour of the afterlife.

You may also notice that the game’s protagonist is neither a monkey, nor polychromatic :)

    Cheers for the review!

This is one awesome game! But it needs more music, different songs. Maybe gameplay related?

What about playing a new song each time you reach another telefunk? Or what about a song that starts off slow and builds up the beat the higher you climb?

One thing annoys me, though. After quitting the game automatically connects to the internet and loads the website. I think this is not necessary.

Is there some kind of gameplay mechanic I’m not understanding..? Once you hit a wall and have to start building your stairs in a new direction, the stairway is useless should you ever fall since you can’t pick up bricks that are above your head. And once you’ve built a zig-zag staircase from both sides of a telefunker’s platform, that telefunker is useless. Is the player meant to quit and generate a new game once they’ve failed to reach the next telefunker twice?

If you build zig-zag staircases you must leave a gap where you can climb up and down. Take a look at this screenshot:
