Aquaria Release Date: December 7th

On: December 2nd, 2007

Coming out Friday, December 7th, 2007!

You heard it right. After years of development, Aquaria, Bit Blot’s IGF Grand Prize winning undersea adventure game, is done and slated for release on PCs everywhere Friday, December 7th, 2007! The game will cost a mere $30 USD, which, believe me, is an absolute steal.

Heralding the launch will be a new Aquaria-related post on the Bit Blog (which you should be reading already) every day this week, featuring concept art, music, development stories, and Kenta Cho knows what else.

I was lucky enough to have worked on this little gem, and let me say, I am so proud to have been involved at any capacity. The game is all content, professional and polished on every level, and chock full of soul. Alec and Derek have slaved over it for a long, long time — and it truly shows. (Internet whiners take note!)

Anyway, before I get too sentimental, I just want to express how proud I am of The Bad Boys of Bit Blot. Through consistent determination and sheer passion they have created something wonderful and deserve every ounce of success they get. These guys are in it for the love of the game, one hundred percent. I know this first hand.

Follow Aquaria here, on Bit Blot’s official site. And be there next Friday for the launch.

Yeah this game is going to be worth 30 bucks. But i’m kinda broke… I’ll rob a bank or something… MUST GET THIS GAME!!!!!!

    Calanctus speaks only in truths!

And I wholeheartedly endorse robbing and/or pillaging to buy this game. :D

  • Joseph

For sure dood, your first on my list of peoples to rob >:)

I see a lot of people getting annoyed by the 30$ USD. It would be important to note that the US dollar plunged within the last year. Hence why people from out outside US think it is a bargain in Euro, Pounds or myself in Canadian dollars. The creators are in fact getting the same money back that if they had charged people 20$ USD a year or so ago.

Anyway, considering the quality of the game, this is the first independent game that I feel like it is worth purchasing.

You should probably focus on people with money. :|

  • Mike

    Sweet.
I played this at ACMI (in Melbourne, Australia) and it was really interesting; it seemed a head above the rest of the games there.
I couldn’t really get into it at the time though, because there were tons of people around.
I’m *really* looking forward to playing it at home and getting emersed in it!
Huge congrats to Derek, Alec, Jenna, and anyone else involved!

  • Derek

Mike, thank you so much for the kind words! The game’s improved a lot since the version that ACMI has, actually (the IGF build). :)

Also, I’m going to head out to Melbourne in late December/early January to check out that exhibit myself. I can’t wait!

  • Fost

Can’t wait!!! I’ll be first in the (virtual) queue – camping overnight from the 6th ;)

  • Del_Duio

While I think indies can sometimes be overpriced, $30 seems like a steal indeed. Why would you balk at that? You’ll probably get more entertainment out of it than the latest 360 or PS3 game, and at half the price.

Yes, but it’s too bad not enough people will ever realize this :(

Derek, this is so great that you have so many people willing to shell out $30 for your game. I had trouble selling my old one for $2 :)

    Good luck!!

  • MisterX

Ah, screw it. If there’s not going to be a demo soon enough, I guess I’ll just buy it right away anyway, hehe. But don’t you dare release a game that’s in any way not awesome! :)

  • Bob

    >The game will cost a mere $30 USD, which, believe me, is an absolute steal.

    Sure it is.

  • http://www.tscreative.net BMcC

    It sure is.

  • Space Ranger

omg its out today omg omg

  • Mandrake42

Wahhhh! Its the 8th here in Australia and its still not out. Where is it? Where in the states are they located Ill look up the time on World Clock!! :P

  • Mandrake42

I think I read something about an 8pm release and I checked world clock and its not that yet on either the west or east coast :P

  • saharo

Here in Italy it’s 8th december since 2 hours! I should either wait a pair of hours or go to sleep and check the demo tomorrow… what a hard decision to take!

  • Mandrake42

*Makes Saharo a strong coffee* It will be worth the wait :P

  • Mandrake42

I cant get into the buy page :P

“The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.”

Mayne that means lots of people are buying it? Oh well, Ill download the demo instead

  • saharo

I had a volleyball match today, so I had a chamomile instead, and got to sleep.

Anyway, I’ve played the demo and the game is at least as good as I expected it to be… and I had a lot of expectation!

Did anyone noticed that everything about bit-blot.com id unreacheable? Both the main website and the forum, everything. And it’s not a 404 error or something… if I manually try to visit index.pgp it says that the file is not on the server!!!
Anyone know what’s going up? I was planning to buy the game!

  • imp

    Yah, the site is down.

You can still get the demo at:

  • saharo

    Luckily I’ve found on
    http://indygamer.blogspot.com/2007/12/aquaria.html
    the following link
    https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp

It should be possible to buy the game from there!

  • http://www.tscreative.net BMcC

I should probably make a quick post, huh? :P

  • Gesso

    BMcC, you really should.

  • deadeye

Hey Derek, is it true that the page is down because of a DOS attack?

  • http://www.tscreative.net BMcC
  • Mandrake42

Waahh! I hope it wasn’t disgruntled fellow contestants who hacked the site. That would just be so wrong. One of the things I like about the indi community is that they seem to be supportive of one another. Alec and Derek have worked hard on this game *Hugs my full ver* and it shows, they deserve their moment to shine.

  • http://www.tscreative.net BMcC

    It’s just the traffic, don’t worry. :)

  • Mandrake42

Good, Its Sunday morning here and I didn’t want that can’t of bad taste clouding my day. Lots of traffic is good :)

  • Mandrake42

Can’t of? That was supposed to be kind of. Bleh, thats what I get for pre coffee posting.

  • Gesso

Why, thank’s BMcC. But we really should help Derek and Alec out. If there’s people that want to buy the game, and don’t know how, we should do our best to inform them.
