Multiplayer on One Keyboard 2: Tremor

Okay, this week I’ve got something that I’m guessing you haven’t played: Tremor 3 by Mark Pay. This little gem came out eight years ago (yikes, I’ve been playing this for eight years?!?), and went largely unnoticed by those outside of the “Click” community. A shame, because the game is wonderful.

Tremor is essentially a bloody multiplayer deathmatch game in the vein of Quake and Unreal Tournament, but re-imagined in a 2D top-down world. And instead of blowing each other to bloody bits over a LAN, with a safe eight feet of distance between you and your opponents, you’re all sitting at the same keyboard.

Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and Gladiator modes are all available for 2 or 3 players (3 is much better in my opinion), and you can play the game to the soundtrack of your favorite CD. The controls may seem strange at first, but once you get used to them you will find they work pretty well. The game’s interface is fantastic (very sweet how your damage shows as graphical sections around you), and the graphics in general are pure joy.

Download Tremor 3 from Mark’s MMF Bunker (Free, 6.21 MB).

Also worth noting is Mark’s earlier release Tremor (2) Gold. The interface and graphics are inferior to the sequel, but it features 4 player support and a fantastic survival mode that were both sadly chopped for Tremor 3. I used to have this one on my computer, but it’s been lost over the years, and I could not find an active link anywhere on the internet. Was ist neu? Perhaps someone else will be more successful. EDIT: qnp comes to the rescue! Download Tremor Gold here:

EDIT: Keyboard jamming? Try hooking up a usb keyboard and ps2 keyboard in tandem.

And in case anyone missed it, Tremor is a play on Quake. Tremor. Quake. HAHAHA. Good times were had by all.

Actually I just played it by myself a few times and hid some guys behind a wall and then controlled player one and shot the big boss thingy from behind. I think. It was a long time ago.

    This news is old.

  • Jordan

Dang it, am I showing my age by thinking that something released eight years ago is news? :D

  • integral

I have tremor(gold) (tremor 2 was made with KnP +some other 2 rare mark pay games – will upload tomorrow

  • rodnonymous

Is this an Underside rip off?

  • trav

hot tip: avoid keyboard input buffer problems by attaching multiple usb keyboards.
Also provides more hand space and room for insideous sabotague (why do my rockets keep firing when I’m next to a wall!!!?!/?!)

  • Cas

    Extreme Violence.

  • Jordan

Nice tip trav: I was going to mention that, but forgot. Another option of course is combining a usb keyboard with a ps2 keyboard. You can generally get away with four players jam free with that setup.

  • MrBig

The only thing missing and that hasn’t been invented as a genre yet is a DROD / Quake Deathmatch crossover. Imagine, turn based Deathmatch… oh what fun. ;-P I want to see HD graphics on the sucker though.

  • qnp

Jordan, I’m *pretty* sure this is what you were looking for, so I uploaded it for you.
    Tremor Gold
Hope that’s what you were looking for.

  • Trotim

Mh… there was another game like this, but with up to four players who were soldiers and had to do missions against aliens… War 2099 or something… *ponders*

  • BeamSplashX

That would be Triumph! War 2099.

  • Nikica

You guess wrong I played it.

  • Mark-P

Wow, this was an unexpected trip down memory lane! The keyboard input restrictions were always a pain and it’s good to hear that you can get around it by combining ps2 and usb. It’s also awfully nice of my old uni not to have taken it down from their servers despite the fact that I graduated almost 3 years ago. :D

The Smash TV-esque survival mode must have been Tremor Gold. Thanks for the link qnp, I don’t have a copy on this PC.

Downloaded the Tremor game after a 10 minutes google search. Found it on

But the game I’m really looking for is Tremor Gold. That’s the one I used to play 9 years ago, and I can’t find it anywhere. 4 players, better weapons, better graphics and some other stuff I can’t quite remember. If anyone finds some way to download that one, PLEASE comment it here. Thank you!
