Omar's Orthogonal Oyster Outing

It’s still quite early in development, but I have to mention Omar’s Orthogonal Oyster Outing, the follow-up to Omar’s first tremendous oyster outing. If only to support charon and get him even more juiced about finishing this bad boy. ‘Cause it’s that great.

The original game, which pitted Omar against a town full of zombies, was an enjoyable action RPG “lite,” that had a number of interesting mechanics, like searching/securing buildings and fighting infections. O^4 so far seems to be that game, but with totally sweet minimal 3d graphics that can be zoomed and panned (using the mouse or the numpad).

The controls at this point are a bit obtuse and require that you have roughly 3 hands – you move with the arrow keys and aim with the mouse, but to shoot, you have to press the Spacebar. ‘Enter’ will get you into buildings. You can see the rest of the controls (and edit them all) by opening up “oooo.gei” in Notepad. This is a good way to get the game running in a window, as well.

Alse, be aware that in certain “omigod zombies”-type situations, Omar may start “panicking,” in which case you will temporarily lose control of his movement!

(Thanks, Alehkhs, I got it! Via Puppy Buckets.)

O*4 looks very neat. Something about it reminds me of the old Shadowrun games for the SNES and Genesis but with graphics that almost mimic Paper Boy 2 for the SNES (smaller sprites of course). It has a “good” nostalgia feel to it. Hopefully the finished product will have tighter control and perhaps an elaborate story… elaborate in comparison to a classic NES title that is (Golgo 13 was pretty elaborate, especially the sequal. As a side note it was the first NTFS NES title to have sexual encounters in it – ok so that’s off topic).

Anyway, I’m Looking forward to this one.

  • Mischief Maker

Yeah, but it’s really weird when the ladies ask you to talk dirty to them and all you say is, “. . . .”

  • haowan

I just got completely owned :(

  • Zulgaines

I have three hands, so I’m really getting a kick out of this game.

  • Xion

This is freaking awesome. Can you change the controls to move though? I’d much rather use WASD. Or is it just the controls for other things wot’re changeable?

    Also, how do you exit?

  • Professor

To exit the game, press Alt-F4. I also didn’t find basic movement controls in the oooo.gei, so I presume you can’t change them at the moment. Don’t worry, The control scheme is not finalized yet and will undoubtedly be fixed.

  • Jay

    zombies: yay!
    sucky controls: nay :(

  • Prio

Obviously you are missing the idea. See. *lowers his head and rests his chin on the spacebar* Ungh… argh… here we go, perfect. It may take some practice to be able to see the screen properly. But this is part of the Amazing GamePlay, of course.

  • colonp

it’s autoaiming like in the original for me. Has anyone actually gotten mouseaiming to work?

  • MrMan

Amatures, I just slap the space bar and enter key with my wang.

  • Karzon

First one was great, and I’m glad to see the author’s still at it.

  • ok

this is good, similar to survival crisis z i hope this improves.
