Diamond Densetsu Gaiden: Everylasting Symphony of the Red Diamond

…comes a whole new experience that is guaranteed to change the face of electronic entertainment forever. During a private unveiling of the game in San Francisco this past weekend, reknowned movie critic Roger Ebert purportedly took his hands off the keyboard after just 10 seconds of play and said+, quietly and to no one in particular:

I’ve heard many arguments for why games are art. This is best one. I am convinced. My hat is off to you, Romeopie.

He then proceeded to cry real tears of joy which, he claimed, “had not touched my cheeks in over 75 years. Since the Great War.” It is not understood exactly which war to which Mr. Ebert was referring, or how he could have cried before he was born, in 1942. However, those in attendance were compelled to believe that he was being genuine with his emotions.

+ This is completely false.

What a work of genius- mixing vector and bitmap graphics! True talent.

  • http://doomlaser.com Golds

    Woo! Game Beat.
    1026 Combo. 3234 Time.

The music represents the Kid A of Diamond Rider themes.

  • Biggerfish

I am not skilled to reveal the awesomeness of diamonds in this game.

    Hiro rips me apart.

  • Jest

Wow, I can’t believe I sat there and played that over and over and over until I beat it. XD Actually a hell of allot of fun. or maybe it’s just 3:42AM and everything is amusing.

  • Oob

I have almost certainly been brainwashed…

I…I think I have to go and buy Aquaria now…

  • http://Unoriginalreality.blogspot.com Chase

I can’t honestly think of a good reason why I should like this game.

But I can’t honestly think of a good reason why I am unable to stop playing it.

  • Dooshsplat

This is like an electronic orgasm! I literally had to change my pants after playing through it. Warm fuzzy wuzzies all over.

  • Xander

Somehow better than the entire second season of heroes.

    Also; Heroes needs moar lasers.

  • some dude

    WTF!?

  • http://gnomeslair.blogspot.com/ gnome

    Awwww…

  • deadeye

Was that Salvador Dali trying to invade my brain?

Hm, I guess that could be taken many ways, but specifically I mean one of the quickly flashing images.

  • Xander’s Right

    @Xander,

Better than the entire Heroes series I’d say! With that said, at least Heroes isn’t anywhere near as trite as CSI: Miami… who ever gave the go ahead for that one should be shot. Anyway, great game, though not as good as the Red Dwarf Series… but then, very little is.

  • oranda

    Filenames has awesome much?

  • Xander’s Right’s Right

    @Xander’s Right

    Damn Right!

  • Jad

I’m deeply disappointed in this game.

It had none of the avant-garde qualities that diamond rider had. This is simply a watered-down experience to please the masses. Coherent movement? Actual gameplay?

    MUSIC IN 4/4 TEMPO!?

It was even enjoyable! I despise this game and all that it stands for. Try selling it to EA, they might like it. I’m gonna stay hardcore and play the original.

  • Noyb

    1611 combo. 3300 time.
I liked the mechanic that the closer you are to the boss, the more damage you do. I suck at bullet hells, so the final boss was basically me trying to end up with four lives after the beginning forms, then just standing right next to it and shooting.

  • xerus

Sorry to all those Rider fans that were expecting a terrible game… we actually worked on this for 2 days instead of 20 minutes this time, ha.

  • Cave Story

Better than it’s obvious HALO inspiration.
The trick of getting closer makes the game very easy to finish.

  • Ijon Tichy

“I feel sorry for the maron who made it”

    Awesome.

  • Cave Story

Also, an Stanislas Lem reference is awesome too dear sir. My hat off to you.

The end to an engaging afternoon at the computer.

  • cactus

Haha, fun game! Did you make the music in this one too, Derek?

I wasn’t sure how you could top Diamond Rider, but apparently, making a game with almost no similarities at all seems to have done the trick :)

I almost beat it too. But instead I died…

  • xerus

cactus how could you! You’re supposed to be pro at this stuff.

  • Cave Story

I’m sure Cactus never tried to beat his own games.
He just makes them as difficult as possible.Doh!

  • Derk

It is… like all the other shooters

  • Metroid48

    @Derk

    All other deadly, funny, shooters.

Btw, what format is the readme in?

  • xerus

The cryptic readme is a pxtone file.
