Machinarium Sketchbook

The indefatigable Brandon Boyer has posted some lovely concept art by Amanita Design. These are sketches for Machinarium, their adventure game which is coming to the PC and Mac this Friday. You can download a short demo and also pre-order the game from the Machinarium website.

Having played it, I can safely say that it is a must-buy for fans of adventure games.

Would’ve been awesome if the game had sketchy graphics like that :O

I’d been putting off my pre-order because I couldn’t decide whether to get the game through Steam or from their site.

I finally went with their site because of the soundtrack bonus (you apparently get the whole thing on release, not just those five tracks) and because they probably get a bigger cut that way.

The sketches do look very cool,. but then again so does the finnal version, got that childhood storybook illistration feel,.

Two more days and the wait will be over, such a wonderful game!

Preordered weeks ago, still can’t wait!!!

I’m so excited about this. I can’t wait to play it. On a side note, the title screen in the demo is awesome :D

    to the collection!

I’ve got a press version to write about for a magazine. Got to the ending.

The game’s brilliant. The characters, their communication and the world are simply charming… Ok, the puzzles were occasionally err.. puzzling, but the hint system helps all the way. A few arcade minigames were a neat way to change pace but turned out simple enough to be competed on the first run.

When i looked the sketchbook pictures and game trailer, i did got feeling that i have seen something similar background art many years before, and then i remembered game called Beneath a Steel Sky published back in year 1994. Correct me if i am wrong.

Well, the city in Machinarium is indeed muililevel, mechanized and tends to strech vertically, so you do get a bit of that BaSS “rusty skyscraper jungle” feel in some locations.

Judging by screenshots, the setting, architecture, art style, and color palette are striking similar. They both look great, but now I’m curious if it inspired Mechanarium.

And BaSS had that Joey, a robot sidekick who spent most of the game in awkward angular tin bodies… :)))

I dont wanna look much more at those pics. Kinda spolierish. :)

I had preordered the game a long time ago, and today I finally had time to download it. I must say that I’m very excited about it, haven’t had time to play more than three screens yet, but it feels very promising.
