Holiday Vidyas

I hope everyone’s enjoying the holidays! Here are some videos for you:

Here’s a great “making of” video for Anthony Flack’s Cletus Clay. The development looks like it’s going strong – check out the website for more updates, including a new action-packed trailer.

I was definitely surprised and excited to hear that Andy Schatz is working on Monaco, a 4-player co-op stealth game! Andy, who’s best known for his “Venture” series of educational wildlife games, discusses his creative shift on his blog.

Here’s a new La Mulana Wii video from NIGORO.

There’s a single-stage demo for Locomalito’s Hydorah out. Thanks to Pixel Prospector for the news and video.

I check out Michal Marcinkowski’s blog pretty regularly. If you’re wondering how Link Dead is going – Michal and Sigvatr parted ways and Michal is using procedural graphics now. And actually, I think it looks pretty great!

Oh my god, La Mulana Wii looks so sexy

  • Foppy

I didn’t know about the “double” 3D-ness of Cletus Clay, it looks great.

  • Golds

Oh god. More terrible General MIDI from Nicalas in La Mulana. What is the deal with his? :(

  • negative zero

Wow…such variety, and they’re all looking great!

  • Sylvester Ink

Loving the looks of Hydorah! It’s good to see an upcoming shmup that isn’t a curtain-fire game . . .
    Monaco looks compelling too!

  • Tim Timothy

Gonna try Monaco just because it had Danse Macabre in the trailer.

Also, what is Nicalis’s obsession with DLC?

  • jazzuo

the clay looks fantastic….oh like being in gromit movie

  • Ezuku

Monaco…. the “cleaner” concept intrigues me. I’m really hoping it’s an actual cleaner. Going around mid theft and dusting and vaccuuming sounds too awesome for words.

  • MrUnimport

I’d like to point out that the MIDI music in the La-Mulana trailer existed prior to the game’s development for Wii. Any music being composed specially for the game hasn’t been shown to the public yet.

holy shit the new cletus clay looks epic

  • Phasma Felis

Hot dang, I am really impressed by the parallaxing/3D mapping in Cletus Clay. I think we all figured they’d be just using flat sprites of their clay figures… Did you see where the shadow of the falling hay bale stretches accurately across the front of the tank? That’s fantastic. Amazing attention to detail here.

  • Phasma Felis

Hey, I wonder if the Cletus Clay guys could sell toy figures? I’d love to own that chicken tank. :D

  • Jotaf

All awesome games! Monaco seems so classy, and its tiled graphics with FOV are very roguelikey. I still don’t get how they use the mesh in Cletus Clay, is the photo of the clay figure still used as a texture over the mesh?

One complaint about Hydorah (which is incidentally by favorite of the bunch), explosions seem to hide orange bullets which means certain death in some situations, and the ship could be about 10% faster (though I guess I could get used to it; but not the hiding bullets thing). Still awesome :)

  • Dusty Spur

Hydorah *looks* great, but it’s much too slow for me.

Monaco just looks ridiculously cool though.

  • Mike Hawk

La-Mulana cannot get done quickly enough.

  • updowners

Cletus Clay’s art ‘style’ is awesome. Will it be freeware?

  • woof

There’s no way it will be freeware considering how much effort and time has been put into it.

Hydorah looks great but it plays like a dog at this point. Ridiculously memorization based.

It’s odd that I was just thinking about Cletus Clay…

    This video was awesome!

  • PHeMoX

Monaco looks very promising to me, just the kind of game I’m into! :)

The LINK-DEAD stuff looks good too, but I do hope he teams up with a rather good artist or level designer. So far it looks a bit empty.

Obviously I’m not judging anything just yet as it’s all still very WIP.

when did MM and Sigvatr parted ways?

  • Blade

Hydorah looks fantastic and has a ton of potential. The developer just needs to have some enemies drop speed-boosting powerups. If I had an easy way to increase my speed some at the start of the stage a la Gradius, it would make the game a lot more enjoyable.

    Officially 3-4 months ago.
