Disco? Very! by Tom Murphy VII

This past Ludum Dare birthed a wonderful wonderful game which is also a terrible terrible pun (one so obvious and enticing in its awfulness that two people chose it as their title).  Disco? Very! is this entirely beautiful game made by Tom 7.

I found it a captivating, marveloquent piece of work, overflowing with soul and infinity.

Of course, there were several other games made as well for the jam.  I’m simply too much of a lazy bastard to have even played them all. Of those that I have done, though, I will point to Cardboard Adventures and Dinosaur Dance-Off as being works of extreme culturotainment value.

I enjoyed the various dances and exploring.. But otherwise, I was bored. Inane jumping “puzzles” and long roads of boring visuals.

He had an idea, but no level design to make the game itself fun. Or maybe I'm just sick of all the platformers that just follow formula.

    You have no fun.

Wait… I became VIP and that was it? A broken down room?

  • pgil

    That's the joke.

I thought it was a decent game, even if there wasn't much to do. It has charm.. It would be cool to see it more polished, with more interesting level design. Right now there's no challenge, and not much reward for exploring.

I actually really liked the quiet, haunting music in the abandoned VIP room.

Why has nobody made a Metroidvania Construction Set yet? Or even a Procedural Metroidvania Generator?

The game lacks some challenge. It's by no means bad, just boring and unrewarding.
Ludum Dare spawned a lot of great games. I was wondering why there weren't a single one here on TIG Source.

Kinda scary how long it took me to figure out my need to use the bathroom.

no one mentioned the great music? clearly the best part of the game.

  • Ninja Dodo

The music is pretty sweet, yes.

Hey, I love the PMG idea!

I found it pretty captivating to be honest. Soulful, as Increpare says.

It does bear mentioning that these games are made in an extremely short time, in case people didn't follow the link. That might be why people are finding balance issues, or a lack of things to do. It's a proof-of-concept, essentially.

Incidentally, a friend and I took part in the jam too, and we're busy fixing up our project for a better release, so we might have something to say about that soon. Fun!

There's some excellent music in this. Has a very Cave Story feel to it.
