TIGCompo: Versus

TIGSource Versus Compo

At long last, a new TIGCompo approaches…

Many of the participants of last year’s TIGJam were treated to some late-night brawls between eager combatants in Paul Hubans’ MADHOUSE and Mark Essen’s NIDHOGG (as well as sporadic skirmishes in Street Fighter III: Third Strike and Super Street Fighter IV). At GAMMA IV, we engaged in the tragicomical four-player mayhem that is B.U.T.T.O.N. Truly, these battles instilled in us not only the warrior spirit and the joy of friendly competition, but also the sadistic pleasure that comes from watching other people pit themselves in mortal kcombat.

For the TIGSource Versus Compo, the rules are simple: make a game that pits at least one human player versus another human player. The rest is up to you!

Deadline: February 27th, Midnight

<st>Should we consider the monkeys portrayed as human beings? Do other primates count?</st>

I wish I could have wrote “I'm In” but all I got was “An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!Spamming. “, twice above all, wich is too much.

thank god you're here to make important contributions like this, alastair_jack, it makes this old war hero proud

  • MisterX

This is going to be frustrating for those poor lads who don't have anyone to play games with on a single PC.
    Like me.

So, hopefully lots of the participants are capable in terms of developing netcode! ;)

This is the best competition idea yet

The rules don't state it has to be remote multiplayer…or even simultaneous…or even synchronous…surely you can think of a way to play on just one machine? That constraint could lead to something pretty cool. Petri Purho could have even entered 4'33″ of Uniqueness for this compo.

    3rd in chain.

    Nailed it.

Great idea for a compo, but please please please don't mention Nidhogg until it's released.
I didn't think it could happen, but I'm actually beginning to get frustrated with a game before it's out.

Yeah… you might want to register before you, you know, post.

Lots of solid competition in this compo. I'm ready to take all you bastards on!

  • PhasmaFelis

Did anyone look at Craig Adams' interview about Nidhogg? He starts off talking about what “most people think when they think of Nidhogg”, as if it's some kind of cultural phenomenon, and then winds up saying that Nidhogg's mocap (Nidhogg is mocapped?) is better than Avatar's.

Jesus Christ. I'm really glad this guy didn't actually make the game, or I'd lose all respect for it. Messhof, please don't ever be this stupid. :)

  • cobodo

Things like that is why you're better off just focusing on the games themselves and not the over-analysing, pretentious or stupid things people often say about them :P

  • http://twitter.com/DorkbotGames John Sandoval

Yeah… it was admittedly pretty silly.

  • http://twitter.com/acme740 Acme740

Thanks but I'm with guys from game companies that brought some masterpieces, so that would be unfair (given that I'm good at designing and bringing good ideas)

  • http://twitter.com/HeroOfTheFSA Joseph Gibson

Sorry guys, I won't be entering, it's just not fair. My muscles are too glistening, I'm too pleasantly perfumed, the wind whistles round my knees and as my utilikilt billows in the wind your mind is turned to base thoughts.

Millionaire Fighting 2001 is about to begin. Hardcore fans have been eagerly anticipating this event, and now the waiting is finally over. Check your training wheels at the door, ladies and gentlemen. This is gonna be one incredible battle that won't easily be forgotten.

The time has come when the new history is going to unfold. You can feel the intensity in the air as the hopes, dreams, and hearts of these warriors are about to be put to the ultimate test of skill. What they're after is the title of the world's strongest. Now, are you ready to get it on?

This is the first dream event of the twenty-first century. If you choose the wrong groove, you may just lose. The winner of this tournament is the strongest team in the world. These fighters are as good as they come, any team could win the tournament. Only a team with ability, guts, and strength can win the title. Are you ready?

hihihi. Anyway that's still true (and not even mentioning again the loosiness of the site adminstration)

I like that gentleman in the picture to the left. His top hat shows style and integrity. Plus, he also seems to frown upon the barbarism that is about to happen right before his eyes, which is a bonus in my book. Who drew that picture?

  • Guest

I'm pretty sure that was a joke. A wonderfully constructed joke.

if this post were removed of its present context it would be the best on this site

Man, CapcomVSSNKannouncer, that was my favourite comment of all time. I'd like to add:

This marks the end of an epic battle. The winner emerges with the pride and honor of a hard won victory, but also with a nagging sense of uncertainty. The loser walks away with a heart heavy with shame and anger, ready to make a new start and fight again another day. Both warriors know that this isn't true, the end. Neither one's potential has been truly reached, and there is much hard training ahead.

They'll never forget the days of exchanging blows. They'll never forget the days of lost hope, of self loathing. Once they've caught their breath, the warriors will return to the ring. This is the burden of the true fighter. There is no other choice. Who knows where the next opponent lies? This story may be over, but the battle is just beginning!

So who wanna blood dance with me?

  • Gastposter

i love the monkey duel picture! who made it?

If you were half as smart as me you'd be the second smartest person visiting this site!

if you're making a fighting game, a long winded announcer should be a requirement

A good PvP game is the most serious test of your design chops, I reckon.
