Fotonica

Fotonica is a first-person, on-rails, one-button platform game (that’s a mouthful) by Santa Ragione. It was released recently as “pay-what-you-want” (minimum of $1.75). The game features 5 levels, two-player splitscreen, and cross-platform online leaderboards. You can try the demo here, on Kongregate.

was this part of the GAMMA IV comp?

    looks super trippy. will try!

Seems like this would be better served as a commercial or a music video than a game.

    What does that even mean?

  • News

    It’s a little… one-dimensional.

    Canabalt ripoff.

My exact thoughts when watching the trailer: “This looks like an 80’s music video!” I mean that in a good way. :D

  • Player1

    This game is brilliant…

@Guest: so Canabalt would have been ripping off mirror’s edge then?….

    Santa Ragione, ahahha.

I’m gonna try the demo just for the developer’s name

No, because that’s not a on rails one button game.

Although technically all one button games are on rails so that sentence is fairly redundant.

  • News

I’ve played at least 3 one-button games that weren’t on rails, and I don’t even like the genre.

Pax Britannica, which received frontpage mentition, is a minimal one-button tactics game. The other ones I’ve seen were Gamma IV entries.

You can’t conflate “on rails” with “one button”, just because most one-button games are so.

  • Rusty Pipes

I believe you can get it for free if you just download it, they just recommend that if you want to pay for it pay at least $1.75 so Paypal doesn’t gobble the whole donation up.

“On-Rails shooting is a game where the movement of the character is set to a pre-determined path”

    Guess what, buddy?

  • News

The definition of a one-button game is “a game where each player’s input is a single button”.

Do you even remember what this argument was about? Are you aware that you can look up and read the beginning? Do you have a learning disability?

If I have to spell it out, this sentence is false:
    >Although technically all one button games are on rails so that sentence is fairly redundant.

Are you trying to say that the movement of your ship in Pax Britannica is, in fact, not on rails?

    Do you control any movement?

    Ergo sum.

All one button games are on rails.

  • News

All on-rails games are action games. Pax Britannica is not an action game, nor is the ship a character.

The very first Gamma 4 entry I clicked on in the forms allows free movement on a plane:

It means I have at least as much fun watching the game being played as I do playing it myself.

  • bearfighter

It was part of the A Game By Its Cover comp! I’m pretty thrilled to see he made a full game out of it, though I was part of the camp trying to persuade him to remove the arms, haha. Oh well, still looks fantastic.

    Who made this music?

    What is wrong with you?
Can’t you feeble mind imagine one SINGLE one-button game which is not on rails? Seriously?
And, by the way, no, ships in Pax britannica are, in fact, not on rails.

I thought one would have better to do with his life than to troll obviously on tigsource.
