Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

On: August 10th, 2011

I haven’t tried it out yet, but Fuelcell Games and illustrator Michel Gagné have just released Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet on XBLA. It’s a non-linear action game that features up to 4-player cooperative play (local and online). The price is $15.

Apparently the game’s music (including what you hear in the trailer) is by the Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir!

  • Atnas

    !
Sweet jesus. Worth $15 for sure. Breathtaking atmosphere, blending smoothly animated and lively backgrounds with a charged soundtrack with what looks to be quite tight gameplay.

  • jkd

    Holy crap.

  • Farquad

Looks pretty awesome. But if that’s what they’re calling metal these days, I must be getting old.

    This game is undeniably awesome!

  • DEREK-YOOHOO

    XBLA XBLA XBLA

  • Phubans

Please tell me this is getting a PC release.

  • Lucas

    Hello there, Dimmu Borgir.

Hope this gets a PC release.

  • dEnamed

Dimmu Borgir always sounds like Hans Zimmer had a rather unfortunate run-in with a malfunctioning chainsaw. Although the Trailer does cut off the second it would have gotten interesting :p
The Song is “Progenies of the Great Apocalypse” if anyone cares.

Anyways, let’s talk game. Please, please do make a PC Release. This looks quite interesting. Too interesting to be a console exclusive title, no? Please, please?

  • dEnamed

or rather the song is not, my memory is a bleach place with funny little rabbits in it and apparently one of those likes triggering bad memory references.
(Eradication Instincts Defined it is… shoot me)

  • Srduncan

please come to pc land.  Please!

  • Vincent

    Fuck Xbox L.A.! PC planned?

  • YetanotherguyIam

Can this game be categorized as indie?

  • http://dark-acre.com Jack Nilssen

Just released… a week ago.  That like, 10 years in internet time.

All trolls aside, a fantastic game and well worth the long wait for those of us who’ve been following Gagne’s project for nigh on 4 years now.

More co-op DLC is planned but no word of a PC release, but all things in time I suppose.

  • Theon

    XBLAhblahblah.
Sure smells like greedy sell-out “indie” developers in here.

That said, it looks absolutely astonishing.

  • Oscar

Looks and sounds amazing. Funny to see how many people actually know Dimmu Borgir }-) I’d buy it if it was on PSN or worked in Linux

  • phil

Looks awesome. I remember seeing the Trailer for this like 5 years ago when it said “Coming Soon”… I guess now is soon.

  • Abaleth

Love the Samurai Jack style artwork

  • Ffadsdfe

TIGS should only post games that are on PC, since almost all visitors definitely have access to PC.

Interesting game. Visuals are not something new, although they are impressive. But I would buy this game especially because of that “black metal” thing. So developers if you want me to support this game and spread the word release it for PC.

    What a horrid idea.

  • Phubans

    That was me.

    *feigns surprise*

  • Mrmot

    Pata-pata-pata-insanely twisted shadow planet!

No really, the graphical style is pretty much the same. Which is totally awesome. Please please let this get a PC release. Would be an insta-buy.

  • HipTanaka

It was short but sweet. Really fun, but not enough secrets and other incentives to really push your abilities (as always). Best of Summer of Arcade, anyway.

    every game can

  • Theon

    No.
“Indie” means that it’s made by independent developers, and note some huge-ass company.
The reason why this game might not fit the term, is that it’s backed by Micro$oft, who have bought them out so they won’t release on other platforms.

  • Jemeson

Seconded. Fuck it, I can’t recount how many games it stole already.

Yeah, just released, like Trauma, who still hasn’t got a mention.

The most interesting thing about this game is the visuals, they’re something new.

  • YetanotherguyIam

I mean, when does a game dev team stops being indie?

This game looks like it was done by a large team of professionals and a large budget. <- Just made that info up, but… it's true, right?

I thought the magical thing about indies, is that they're done by small low budget teams with original ideas that AAA games don't date to try, because they only care about money!

This game seems to be awesome, for an indie. But it's getting a little to close to AAA. Super graphics with a seen-before gameplay.

Still, AAA or not, this game seems lovely to me, I love the graphics. They're something new.

  • Vania

    So, no PC release?

Argh, played this game at PAX and it was so awesome.  Don’t exactly see what’s so “seen before” about the gameplay but whatev — I’m awaiting a PC release myself, and lamenting that 360 of mine that was stolen four years back.

As for the funding rendering it un-indie, I’d argue both this game and Limbo are still qualified indie games by virtue of beginning as such and remaining faithful to the original creative vision.  The reason indie game developers are indie game developers is we dislike the constraints that come with working on games in the industry — domination by marketing and business, and the “cog” feeling of being one member of a very large team.

side scroller shooter? hello? seen before!

yeah, it’s an AWESOME game! And I agree it’s never seen before in its level of awesomeness, but that’s only because they done a really great job!

I envy you! I wish I had play this game as well!

By a team in Seattle no less! Go Seattle indies!

It’s only a song intro or interlude. Dimmu Borgir doesn’t sound like that.

  • YetanotherguyIam

Was this game developed by a AAA corporation in Seattle?

  • Guest

TIGSource isn’t exactly obliged to give a mention to Trauma…

  • Tiganon

Fuck PC!  I can’t count how many games it stole from the Board format already.

  • Tiganon

Holy crap, that’s Dimmu Borgir?  Sounded like something Danny Elfman would do for a Tim Burton flick.  Is the rest of the game similar in music or does it ever sound actually death metal-ish?

  • http://www.airbornegamer.com Adam

Wow, looks quite twisted for sure.  Sweet gameplay trailer… These guys got the creative juices flowing, nutty environments!

  • Farquad

Okay, that trailer is actually very awesome. A way more effective trailer than the first I watched.

  • Bob

Four years, and no PC release…daaaammmmmiiiiiit.

  • i don’t have an xbox 360….

    wish granted
