Xenowar – X-Com for Android

While I’m waiting eagerly to the full release of Xenonauts, I’ve been filling my commutes and times away from home with the similarly titled Xenowar; a light, X-Com inspired game available for Android and Windows.

With a simple touch interface and low-polygon 3D graphics, Xenowar manages to maintain the essence of X-Com, tasking players to fight an alien invasion through the construction and management of bases, researching of futuristic technologies, and commanding of ground-troops. While there are some areas where the game is vague or obtuse, there is almost always a button present to pull up a ‘help’ or ‘reference’ screen.

If you’re a fan of X-Com who’s frequently away from their computer, be sure to check out Xenowar.

Oh man, that low poly is sexy as hell.

It’s nice that there is an option to go straight into a tactical scrimmage from the main menu.

Looks like it isn’t available in my region. Typical :(

There’s a windows download as well; I think it’s open source even.

Great to see it get some attention. Really great game with the proper “feel”. Tactical controls are very easy to get to grips with as well.

Pity. I’m on a Mac. On windows I can just play the original X-COM :)

Just as I was lamenting the dearth of strategy games for Android.

    Hello guys,

If you like original x-com 1, you should also check openxcom:

It’s open source reimplementation of x-com, still in progress but quite advanced. It will contain bugfixes, abbility to play on various operating systems / devices, new features etc.

  • Stiv

Dude, keep that quiet until it’s finished.

Looks awesome but I’m worried about lawyers.

With the new X-com fps coming up you might want to be very very careful using the exact same name.

you can download .apk directly from sourceforge

For Xenowar, downloading the Nurblmod from here:

Is pretty essential. It fixes the textures, and gives the whole UI a badly needed once over. Without it, I played the game, squinting my eyes and missing X-Com, now I play it and it’s all right there.
