Clean Asia Updated

untitledHi there. I’m John Marwin. You may recall that I’m the cool cat who composed the Thailand tune (and everything else) in Clean Asia. Well, cactus updated his shooter just moments ago, so here’s a summary of the new stuff:

-You can go back and forth in the menu now

-You can go back and choose a different pilot between completing missions without them being reset
-Quitting can only be done on the title screen
-Pressing enter after losing a ship will make you respawn faster
-Pressing enter while the credits roll will make them fade out
-Player Two spawns with 200 debris to make dying slightly less frustrating.

Bugs fixed:
-No immobile enemy bullets that stay behind and cause trouble

You can find the full change list here. Of course, the best players never use the 2nd pilot – just so you know.

Later.

    Hurray for that!

Anybody else have problems running this game in Vista? I really want to play it, but I can never get it to work.

  • BenH

If its a game made in Game Maker, then theres your problem. I can’t really tell if it is or not, but I know Game Maker 6 games won’t work in Vista and you’ll have to wait until GM7 is out so they can release a new version. If its not a GM game, then ignore everything I just said. :D

  • Rz.

    it is a GM game

I love the game and I love the look but ffs why do I need to press enter 10 times to play again? Even when pressing it there are annoying delays.

Suggestion: let my restart experience look like this: [Game over], Press fire, [instantly go to Title Screen], Press fire [instantly go to Level select screen] Press fire (not ‘enter’) to select level. [Start].

That way I can restart in 2 seconds not removing my fingers from controls.

Don’t get me wrong, title screens are really nicely done but forcing the player to waste his time watching them instead of playing is just evil and can be a real turnoff.

Well I just hope the author is reading this :D

“Kirby said about 3 hours later:

    VISTA LOL

I’m not trying to be rude when I say this: I don’t really care about Vista and game compatibility. It’s like worrying about game compatibility for Windows ME. Sorry Kirby, but I think you might be voicing concerns to the wrong community.

Nice updates to Clean Asia – it’s great stuff!

This is the best game I’ve played this year so far, and these updates fix what little problems the game had.

@nenad: Did you really download the latest version? I just tested it, and if you press enter repeatedly for 5 seconds after you die, the game will already be starting a new round. If you count the “Entering Screen”, then it might take 8-10 seconds before you actually start playing again. That is not really a long wait, and I can’t shorten it without losing the smoothness I’ve tried to get in the transitions between things.

@Kirby: When GM7 is out, I’ll see if I can get a Vista compatible version of the game out.

@Echo: Thanks, that’s very encouraging to hear!

Heh, no problem. You deserve all the praise you get.

Good to hear. I’m looking forward to it.

  • Dynamo!

You’ve just made a good game a great one. The only reason I stopped playing before was because I got sick of waiting to restart. Thanky cactus et al.

Cactus, I’ve got the latest version and all I can say is; 5-8 seconds in front of a half-responsive computer is a looong wait in mind of a junkie.

Pliiiz make all the transitions skippable via the fire button. You owe it to the people you’ve managed to addict to your game. Help! :)

Actually, to be blunt, I didn’t write the above stuff, however.. I do have to admit that this game fits my music to a tee. I never ever imagined that there could exist a game which could be as screwed up and insane as the shit I make :D

However, you guys should check out Cactus other games aswell, they’re each as insane as this one :P

  • Tim

    Hi John,

I think your collaboration with cactus is a match made in heaven. I know The Design features your music as well, and I hope that both of you will be working together on future projects.

    Cheers. :D
