So it’s not quite the season yet, but what would an MGS game be without a little bit of hype? Arthur Lee will be once again providing a swish parody of the famous series, featuring a suprising amount of gadgets/weapons which seem to mix functionality and the funnies quite nicely.

Release date should be fairly obvious, which hopefully will give some time to improving the music which isn’t quite as accomplished as the rest of the game’s presentation appears to be. The puns however are fantastic enough that I will completely ignore that this isn’t ‘The Underside’.

New video of The Underside, featuring 33% more badass, 50% more Ali, and 100% more melee weapons.

There’s also some pro-elitist brainwash propaganda thrown in at the very end.

The Underside: Johnny Five Aces Trailer

That crafty Mr. Podunkian, a man who is of, shall we say, a contentious nature, has released a new trailer for his magnum opus, The Underside. This one reveals the game’s strong Earthbound vibe. But there shall be no quarreling today over the particulars of his inspiration for the game – I just want to say that it looks good and I’m really looking forward to playing it! Good work, Arthur!

And as a bonus, here’s some awesome Underside fanart from Annabelle Kennedy.

Facewound (Alpha)

Facewound

Just got around to trying the Facewound alpha, which was released by Garry Newman (of Garry’s Mod fame) a couple weeks ago. The game, which was a few years in the making and a few more years abandoned, is very much incomplete… and is a bit dull if you play it straight (that is, without enabling the various debug features). But try pressing a few keys and all of a sudden you can fly through buildings (“V”) and wield everything from chainsaws to crossbows (“N” for credits, “B” for the buy menu)! Now we’re talkin’!

It also comes with a level editor and a slew of unfinished maps to play with. Facepunch forum members have already started modding the game, with some interesting results. To play custom maps, simply copy and edit one of the two “JumpTo” batch files in the main directory of the game.

Definitely nice to have a violent, technically-advanced side-scroller to tide one over until the release of Berserker/Link Dead (both of which are currently being retooled)!

Side note: Arthur “Mr. Podunkian” Lee did the animations in Facewound.

(Thanks, mosh!)
