Final Breaker

By: Brandon McCartin (BMcC)

On: July 5th, 2011

Okay, here’s a game Tim W. deemed “too violent and insensitive” for the Indie Games Blog. So it’s just PERFECT for here!

From what I gather Final Breaker is a game about chopping up a dance troupe with an exploding knife in a cardboard box factory. At first I was surprised to see something so violent and angsty come out of Japan, but then I remembered what Japan was. (Exploding Knife Sim is a thriving sub-genre over there. I swear, look it up.)

Unfortunately, The game’s link now points to a page I’m guessing says something like “obviously we had to take this down” in Japanese. So you’ll just have to keep that anger pent up inside for now, ’cause that’s healthier than playing violent video games, read the studies.

UPDATE: Forum gentleman “Painting” was kind enough to upload the game to his Box.net — you can play it here. Spoiler Alert: It is not very good! Tim W. also updated the YouTube page with more information, but it’s nothing scandalous, I’m afraid.

Oh gosh, I -really- hope this isn’t linked to some horrible incident in Japan. :x

  • Guest

Well that looks horrendously repetitive and with no difficulty what so ever.

  • http://www.twitter.com/BeeMickSee Brandon McCartin

Duh, that’s why they call it a workplace MASSACRE, dude.

It’s funny to think that if these people were wearing armbands with a swastika on it (just to be general about it) that it would be considered a proper game. It’s a scary game just because the violence seems to have no meaning behind it. Throw in a juggle system and a score counter and you can sell it on steam.

  • David

LOL. What a wonderfully weird game. It looks fun, but alas, a bit too repetitive (imho). I love the animations though. If you like violent “immoral” slasher games, check out Total Fucking Psychopath. http://studiostok.se/?page=tfp

  • Dingdong

The animations are very nice… and I agree it does look very repetitive.

  • Painting

Hey, the game is here if you feel like playing it –

  • Phubans

This is what I play in my head 24/7.

  • Guest

Sounds more in-line with western indie titles.

  • Jonny

omg. And what is the “boss” saying about 6-7cm in the end? I suppose it has something to do with the knife and/or his *****!?

  • Goituy

Looks like the guy is angry and the final boss tell him a made a mistake of 6-7 cm or whatsoever and thats why is so angry!

  • Auto

Link for more information about the game, posted with the video:
    http://rocketnews24.com/?p=105822

As far as the game’s context? The best I can reword the Google translation:
In 2039, 2/3 of the population has been wiped out over time by radiation. The way the remaining 1/3 survive illness caused by fallout is by harvesting organs from power company employees and their families, but they can only do that for so long.
The game itself seems to take place in 2002, highlighting a power company massacre that sets the wheel of destruction in motion.

Just wanted to give it a little more credibility than “Japan is weird.”

I don´t want to sound like an ass. But WTF was that. There´s no resistance from the game what so ever. Were´s the challenge?

  • David Holmin

Must be an art game, then.

Pretty much looks like call of duty with knives

  • Nikica

Looks like you don’t have to kill anybody except those guys one room before the boss.

So it’s a moronic anti-nuclear propaganda game, then?

  • Guest

Only every level is the airport level.

  • Vania

I could not care less about the violence,
but this game is terrible. A new low for TIGs.

  • Gnome

Despite my hopeful attitude the download is still down… Oh, well…

  • Dwarf from Dwarf Fortress

I don’t understand on what basis this is on TIGSource, just because it’s not suitable for Indiegames, it becomes suitable for TIGSource? The game is so stupid and bad (I mean the game itself, I’m not even touching the graititous and easy violence), Gosh. If you want to say ‘we are fucking weird artist here at Tigsource, go paint your ass, take a picture of it and put on the front page. At least I would have something to laugh at. Frankly, this is one of the most stupid post I’ve read onTigsource, I’m really losing respect for this site (which I used to admire) everyday.

  • Guewt

If it was only about the violence – well MK9 is scads more violent than this.
If you argue that MK9 at least has some substance to it – then why is this on the FP if the non-record setting violence is all that it has going for it?

    IT’S JAPANESE@!!!!!!!

  • Phubans

PS. BMcC you better start posting my games here before I start killing your friends FOR REAL

  • Pixelhugger

    I don’t get this. And I tried.
The game is boring, pretty much a definition of repetitive and on an artistic level it’s simply not inspiring at all.  And, let’s face it, we’ve seen way more violent games.
It’s not that much of a problem – every game has a raison d’etre (fartsy me) like every movie and every album – weren’t it for the fact, that TIG doesn’t exactly bombard us with indie game news on a daily basis.

  • Painting

I’m not sure why everyone’s hating on this game so bad. You’re all trying to “get” it when it’s just a silly little Flash game. It’d be like if a Japanese indie news site ran across some random goofy game a 12-year-old made on YoYo Games and everyone there started ranting about how horrible it is, how insensitive it is, how it’s “propaganda” or a failed artgame or whatever, and it just proves how fucked-up those Americans all are!

The reason it was posted on TIGS is just because Tim W. refused to post it and, presumably, that alighted the curiosity of a TIGS editor. Why get so pissed about something like this? There are a million other things to do with your life, everybody.

  • Honest Guy

Will this be out for wii?

  • YourProblemsDoNotMatter

man, why are some ppl critiquing this to the standards of “Lawrence of Arabia” when its clearly a “Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2.” Its like beating up a baby or telling lawyer jokes.

  • Foo

    looks pretty boring

  • Guest

It’s just confusing since that means 99% of newgrounds content should be featured here for no apparent merit.

  • Phubans

Haha, that wasn’t me, but I agree with it.

  • Guest

The game is supposed to be about murdering the employees of
Tokyo Electric, the power company that runs the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear
plant. In the video the character starts in front of the headquarter building
and then moves through places like the “Power Plant Maintenance Department”
until finally reaching the chairman’s office, where they kill someone that
looks a lot like Tokyo Electric’s chairman (http://blog-imgs-23-origin.fc2.com/m/i/n/minnie111/Katsumatas.jpg).

On the screen where they explain the controls it says stuff
like: “This middle-aged man can be killed by certain Judo techniques, but none
of them can be performed on him because he is infected by radiation.” I guess
this just shows how mad everyone is at that company.

Thanks for this.  Honestly, maybe I’m desensitized or something, but this really doesn’t seem so bad that it needed to be taken down in the first place.

  • http://twitter.com/CutieCharem Charem Charmeleon

If you right click and select Play while in the second-to-last room, you don’t have to kill those guys either.  :P

  • http://twitter.com/CutieCharem Charem Charmeleon

Dude, it’s just a website.  I think the game sucks too, but man, TIG ain’t required to do or not do anything, and the site generally shows a very good level of competence, presenting many interesting games.  So what if they present some bad games now and then?  (Indiegames presents a lot more poor-quality games than here anyways, and I still like them too.)

Did you pay them for their services of presenting new indie game sources?  No?  Then stop complaining and acting entitled.  Though if this is an issue of you being offended of this game’s content, then I suggest just ignoring the damn article in the first place. TIG will almost certainly present a better one soon enough anyways.

  • http://twitter.com/CutieCharem Charem Charmeleon

You are doing what is known as ‘oversimplifying things’.

  • Honest Guy

Sounds to me like Guest is jealous and he wants his newgrounds game to be featured here instead!

  • Painting

Yeah, for sure. Even knifing things that can actually hurt you feels awful when you do it in Yume Nikki.

You’re saying that 99% of Newgrounds content is a violent and simplistic, yet curious game that Tim W. refused to post on his blog.

    I don’t agree with that. I don’t think it’s even 50%.

Ha! I don’t have any friends, so THE JOKE’S ON YOU.

  • http://www.twitter.com/BeeMickSee Brandon McCartin

Frankly, this is one of the most stupid comments I’ve read on TIGSource, but I’ve never had respect for idiots.

  • http://www.twitter.com/BeeMickSee Brandon McCartin

Some people are dumb and understanding things is hard for them. I just wish they’d keep it to themselves once in a while. :

  • http://www.twitter.com/BeeMickSee Brandon McCartin

    YEP THAT’S IT@!!!!!!

  • Guest

I like how the dude who posted this is all butthurt that some people think he’s wasted their time, so he counters with ad hominem ad nauseum.

  • Mr. K

also it will need 114 achievements

  • Pixelly

I think its just annoying when everyone complains about how “tigsource is going downhill” and that “there wasn’t a reason to post this this game sucks”.  I come to tigsource for indie gaming news, news that I really wouldnt be able to find anywhere else, so easily on the web.  And I think this post is a perfect example of that.  Where else would you see this game if it were not posted here? Frankly, I liked the post.  Yeah, its violent but at least its interesting to watch.

  • Sechs N. Violens

Oh man, this is horrible!  Still, it’s not as frustrating as Super Colombine RPG (what with the difficulty ratcheting up fifty notches in the Hell level there,) but both are good for relieving that bit of frustration or whatever.
