IGF 2007

The site for next year’s Independent Games Festival is now up! There are a few minor changes to the format of the competition. For one thing, the categories are now prefaced with “Excellence in…” instead of “Innovation in…” Which makes sense, since innovative but crappy games shouldn’t win awards, in this author’s opinion. (There’s a separate award for innovation, by the way.)

Check it out in all its sleek black and orange glory!

So NON innovative but polished un-original crap should win? THIS reminds me of some game called ETERNAL DAUGHTER hehehehe MOST over-rated game ever!

This makes so much sense. The games winning IGF awards lately haven’t been very innovative. (and why should they *have* to be)

BTW I wish the IGF people were smart enough to make links that worked. :

@null: Well yeah, a good, less “innovative” game should win over a crappy but original game, sure. Although innovation should definitely be taken into consideration regarding excellence, I don’t think it should be the deciding factor (and even though “innovation” was in the category names last year, I don’t think anyone judged the games as such, anyway). It’s just confusing overall to put “innovation” all over the place… and regarding Eternal Daughter, fuck you, you troll!

A game *can* be innovative and well-polished.
