Mogura 2

Any shooter featuring a big red guy as the final boss deserves a mention on TIGSource.

Mogura 2 is an excellent freeware shmup by Krobon Station, featuring two characters with different abilities and weapons. Both gets a standard shield which can be activated using the X key. Hold the Z key to shoot, and tap the C key to initiate a special attack. Press the left control key to change the way your weapon operates.

A tutorial can be accessed from the main menu by selecting the third option. The second offers a difficulty setting. After picking a character, you can choose to either start from the first level or continue from the last stage attempted.

Installation can be a bit of a hassle but the effort is worth it. Rename the largest executable and cca file to the same name, then repeat for the smallest file. For example mogura2.exe, mogura2.cca, config.exe and config.cca. Click here to download the game.

Ha, just loading it up was kind of a pain. I also had the change the name of the folder it was in, just a heads up. The game itself is shedloads of fun though, I love getting to use the Gradius V style options, though it’s a little dangerous having to aim while stationary, then again the shield does make up for that. Stupid I kept trying to dodge everything though, I’m so unused to having a barrier on command, heh..

mogura 1 was one great shmup with great graphics and humour, I’ll try this one for sure.

it won’t let me extract the files, neither rename’em before extracting! I had no trouble with the first mogura game though, that came in a ZIP file not in an autoextractable ZIP, so maybe that’s it.

what you used to extract? I used 7-zip, works with anything else?
