db_screen43Let’s have a look at what all the noise is about.

gum – The Pyramid was totally ultra boring.

Optum – Whilst the game is technically flawless, like many shooters of the generation it does suffer from repetitive gameplay. There is plenty to do and joypad support helps for those not so good with the keyboard but after completing it on one difficulty, it may feel like too much of the same on subsequent attempts.

Well, if the Retro Remakes Compo 2006 Grand Prize winner is a boring and repetitive shooter then I shudder to think how bad the rest of the entries are.

    Ah

yes, I tried The Pyramid and found it to bge pretty good, though I hadn’t played the original. I thought the presentation was awesome.

I also tried Archaist which I thought was a great remake with a lot of style. Shame the actual game couldn’t live up to my rose-tinted view of it.

I tried a few others but none stood out in my mind terrifically. I forgot to try turbo-pac – might do that soon.

I see what you’re saying though Tim, it’s strange to judge retro remakes under the terms of modern gameplay.

    i agree…

like bob says, Ghostbusters is still rubbish no matter how many times it’s remade. :)

  • Cycle

    Ghostbusters is rad >:O

Also, anyone remember the results of that one switch competition? They gave the grand prize to a shitty Miner Willy game that had a midi of “If I were a rich girl” playing in the background. It was a pretty terrible game, but hey, it stars Miner Willy so it has to win!

“but hey, it stars Miner Willy so it has to win!”

Yes, thats why Willy Does Dallas won first prize this year…no wait, the other one ;)

    *sighs*

Just wait for next years grand 2007 Match 3 Competition, then you’ll see mighty gameplay in action!

Oh, and Ghostbusters *is* awful ;)

I think Tubopac was underrated. I played it for a long time, finished it on Inferno difficulty and I think it has no flaw in the presentation – and the gameplay is just perfect too.

  • A Ghost

    Ghostbusters? Awful?

Aw heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell naw. Don’t go there girlfriend.
