Gesundheit!

Gesunheit!

Gesundheit! is a beautiful little game (or should I say 12-level demo), and it’s not surprising, considering the creator is professional illustrator Matt Hammill. With “handmade scratchboard graphics and a soundtrack filled with toy instruments,” Matt has created a world that seems like it could stretch far beyond the simplistic gameplay. Which isn’t to say the single-level puzzle-solving is bad by any stretch of the imagination. But with a game that looks and sounds this good I really want to play a full-scale adventure. Maybe next time?

(By the way, I had no idea you could make a game like this with Adventure Game Studio.)

I don’t think I’ve found a game this charming or funny since I first played LocoRoco. I was concerned that even with 12 levels the simplistic rules would feel stretched but every level felt fresh to some degree and I enjoyed the game immensely.

I’ll be interested, however, as to how he plans on turning the demo into a full game.

But graphically and sonically, it’s damn-near perfect.

The game is gorgeous! And of course you can do this with AGS. You can do a lot of stuff besides point and click adventures with it. I mean, look at 1213?

I’m just annoyed that I didn’t play this game until too late for inclusion in the current podcast, because I *have* to give it a glowing review and otherwise I’d have shitcanned the podcasts from now on. ;)

Hey, thanks for posting my game, Derek! I check TIGSource way too much, so it was very lovely to be like, “Wait–I know that screenshot!”

Thanks for the kind words, too, by the way. The reason I just wanted to make a silly little puzzle game was because I was afraid that if I’d tried for something bigger, it would’ve ended up joining the couple other unfinished epics on my hard drive. :) But I’ll certainly have more to think about (and more decisions to make, too, bah!) for the next (full?) version…

And as for you, Mr. Arsecast Host, you’re simply far too nice.

I understand completely, Matt! Even a small game takes quite a lot of time and effort to put together. And I actually really like the game as it is. :)
