Which Way is Up

Actually, one of the reasons why I posted And Yet it Moves is because I found Which Way is Up on Tim’s site and the idea behind it is rather similar. It’s another platformer that allows you to rotate the game world, although in this case you can only do so via levers that are scattered around each level (6 in all).

However, each lever can only be pushed once, and you can only reach one lever at any given time, so I ask… what is the point of the rotating other than it looks kinda neat?

And why does every level look the same and feel the same? And where’s the story?

Well, the game was an entry for the PyWeek game competition and is still being worked on. I guess that’s why.

Oh! But it’d still be nice if the rotating actually affected the gameplay somehow.

Hi, and thanks for featuring my game! It’s always nice to get feedback, even if it’s not very positive. I’m well aware that the levers aren’t used in a very complex fashion yet – sometimes setting up a trap for the player, but not much more. It’s definitely something I’m planning on improving in the future, especially in boss stages, but there are still some changes to the code to be made before I really can use the rotating the way I want. Anyway, progress is being made, and at least it’s a nice-looking level transition effect. :) The game will also be divided to several worlds, each of which will have a distinct tileset and at least slightly different gameplay. Working on world 2 at the moment.

_Totally_ stole the main character being named Guy from BQ. ;)

Hi, Hectigo! Sounds great. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress! What I would like to see are perhaps choices in levers, or levers that can be pushed multiple times.

Anyway, I think it’s a great effort given a week of development. Thanks for taking my critiques into consideration!

Is Maenny reading this by any chance? ;)
