That doujin fighting game article sure sounds like something up my alley. Anyway, here’s another item of interest to fans of import titles from Japan. A demo is available, but with only two playable characters there’s not much to experiment with (yet).

Ah, right. Here are some hints on how to do a proper combo.

(Some of the members in the development team were responsible for Melty Blood.)

    That looks supercool.

    That looks extra specially.

I’m liking PC fighters more and more. Is there a community out there full of these? Can somebody point me in the right direction.

The one thing I have about doujin fighters/shooters/etc. is that I never know just what it is they’re referencing.

Except for ArmJoe, but the idea of a fighter based on Lee Miserables is hilarious.

There is a community, but in english it’s pretty small; you might wanna check the http://www.shouryuken.com forums and wiki, or the http://www.insertcredit.com/ insert credit forums. Most of these games are either original works or derived from a popular media phenom in japan; Big Bang Beat and Akatsuki Blitzkampf are original works, it appears, while Melty Blood is based on the Tsukihime games, and ArmJoe is based on LesMis, of all things.

Doujin itself refers to the groups that make these games, not any actual requirement that they’re based on another media; they just frequently are.

Big Bang Beat, like Melty Blood before it, is based on a hentai “visual novel” game. Akatsuki BK IS an original IP, though, as far as I can tell.

    uhh pweedy.
From the moves and some graphic elements it reminds me a little of Guilty Gear.

  • Cancerous Fetus

    What song is this?

  • negative zero

    awesome…

  • devin

Big Bang Beat is the name of my old saxophone teacher’s band.

there’s a doujin fighter feature here:

    http://www.ntsc-uk.com/feature.php?featuretype=edi&fea=DoujinFighters
(uh the comment engine is doing something weird so take out the ; between the edi& and fea)

love the site! the doujin schmup article was great hope the doujin fighter article becomes 3 times as awesome (please no MUGEN…).

the song is -Z- by mintjam according to wiki “The band primarily focuses on music for games” you can dl their songs for free at their website http://www.mintjam.net/index.htm click on sound.

also why do folks instantly think hi-res sprites remind them of guilty gear? i think we can look past the comparisons now and see a hi-res fighter as a hi-res fighter instead of “looking like guilty gear”
