Match Three Game on TIGSource!

highseas_play1_480The ‘Ludologist’, who wrote the article “A History of Matching Tile Games’, recently released their well-researched ”http://www.jesperjuul.net/ludologist/?p=338">"High Seas – The Family Fortune" game. No kidding!

I stand corrected if this game manages to sell more copies than other match-three puzzlers in the market.

    *sigh*

  • Rz.

oh my god, shape AND color?!

  • Moose

It’s not that much of a clone at all, really..

I’ve been an avid reader of Jesper’s stuff. He’s a smart guy.

I was definately surprised at him doing a match 3 game, though. Would have expected something a bit more novel. Not that there’s anything wrong with match 3’s… except them being not novel in any way.

I was expecting more, considering the history of… erm… game history.

Regardless, game is waaaay too easy. Nice, fun, but too easy for me.

OMG BLIZZARD ISN’T MAKING GAMES THIS ORIGINAL!!!!!!!

    THEY’RE RAPING ME!!!!! RAPING ME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pyabo

Clearly it’s a game produced for business goals… being easy makes it a lot more appealing to the casual (read: money) audience.

Sure it’ll get panned by tigsource readers, but when was the last time you guys actually *BOUGHT* an indie game?

Regarding the difficulty, we did find it hard to make everybody happy at the same time. But once you reach the first island, expert mode gets unlocked – that should be challenging enough for you.

“when was the last time you guys actually BOUGHT an indie game?”

That will be next month, I guess :)

  • Beylita

    Hmmm, bought an indiegme?

Is Aquaria actually out yet? How about Spirit Engine 2?

  • Anthony Flack

Last one I bought was Qwak for the GBA. I’m happy to buy indie games – just not that fussed on playing games on the ole computer-box.

  • Shabadage

Mark said that TSE 2 was over a year from release about 6 months ago. TIGSource will keep you guys informed when it gets closer to release.

Way to support indie gaming, Timmay. Sure, the world didn’t need another match-3 game, but where’s Aquaria then?

  • Xander

    Bought an indie game?

    …Gish?

Haha, seriously though, probably one of the XBLA titles. I’m still trying to fight my way through Eets: Chowdown without using the ‘solution’ function but I’m failing quite miserably now. Ah, and I did buy Mr.Robot, which I still haven’t completed because of my computer exploding. Still hoping that was just some mild coincidence rather than AI assisted suicide, but there you go.

“when was the last time you guys actually BOUGHT an indie game?”

I bought Rock Legend just a few days ago, and PeaceMaker a few weeks before that. To be fair, before that it was probably last year before I bought anything.

    else.

  • Derek

Last one I bought was Chocolate Castle. ^___^

Have been meaning to buy Mr. Robot, and probably will soonish.

  • Pyabo

OK, so you guys are doing your part… keep it up. :)

Last one I bought was DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold… but I also have a GamePass… which I keep meaning to get rid of.

  • http://ptoing.net ptoing

Been ages since i bought an indie game :B Tho I sure as hell will buy Aquaria and been thinking about buying Chocolate Castle.

As far as this here Match Four or more thing goes, well presented but ultimately boring.

  • Beylita

Attempting to buy Tohou shooters counts, doesn’t it?

  • Chris

Recently, Mr. Robot, and Chocolate Castle.

I also own Zen Puzzle Garden, Starscape, Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, Darwinia, and Oasis. Probably a few others I’m forgetting.
