Streambolt Desero

Kianis wrote to let me know about this year’s Swedish Game Awards, a PC game competition for Swedish students. The winner of this year’s competition is a rather uninteresting block puzzle game, but definitely check out some of the other games! Kianis pointed out Streambolt Desero , which has music by none other than Joakim Sandberg, and great graphics by Gustav Kilman, who I’m a big fan of. I remember seeing this game a few years ago, I think, and I’m sad to see that it’s still not a full game (although it’s fun while it lasts!).

And definitely take a look at this trailer for Fret Nice, a sidescrolling platformer that’s played with a Guitar Hero controller! (Fret Nice won “Best Concept” in the competition.)

(Thanks, Kianis!)

Oh man, Fret Nice is kickass. Love the theme song. Sadly I don’t have a Guitar Hero controller, but I did manage to play it for a bit with a normal 360 controller.

I can’t seem to find where to download Streambolt Desero.
I’ve only found a link to Fret nice…
    Any ideas?

Just click the big red button :)

Steambolt is one beautiful little game!
Love the colours. Has a certain Gunstar Heroes flavour to it. Nice on:-)

Ooh, Streambolt Desero is a bit nice. :)

Lotsa’ character in the little robots.

Fret Nice looks AWESOME! Damn, don’t count the swedish out of Indie Gaming…

Off-Topic; Anyone know about this Great Games Experiment? Apparently a big gaming portal for Indie Titles and big budget console games. They’re offering a free Garage Games…game… to anyone who signs up between the 7th and the 14th. Sounds worth checking out, though first I have to give these a play!

Thanks for the download info :]

Streambolt Desero is a pretty cool jump and run for a lot of the reasons mentioned above.

The one thing that I found a little distracting was the amount of moves, which seemed to end up with me doing moves I didn’t actually mean to in the heat of the battle.
Also often the player character is hard to make out behind the multiple explosions going on, on-screen. But those points are really just nit-picks. Nice style overall.

I really wish Fret Nice allowed for you to customize the controls. I’ve got a Guitar Hero controller, but it’s the PS2 one! :(

I tried editing the config file that holds the control input information, but it wouldn’t detect up/down or the tilt.

  • Mazapán/Kianis

    Hey cool :)
Did anyone try out Harvest? I really like the concept, how you need to keep the energy constantly flowing between your buildings.

  • Lega

The mood and style (of the graphics and the song) reminds me to no end of Katamari Damacy. And that… that is a good thing!

Streambolt Desero has got to be one of the most fun Megaman-style games I’ve ever played. Non-stop action and great controls. The fact that it’s only one level long makes me le sad. :*(

  • failrate

Ack, when will people learn that all games should come with level editors, or at the very least, terse instructions on how to add a level, if only in some wonky file format.

Hello! I’m one of the creators of Fret Nice. Just wanted to say thanks for the comments and direct you to https://www.emilberner.com/fretnice where you can download the latest version of the game with support for both xbox360 and PS2 guitars!

  • Dominic White

Fret Nice looks awesome, and I’d love to play the version with support for my PS2 guitar, but for some reason your site just isn’t responding. Any mirrors on that download?

  • Guiseppe

It’s certainly cool, but not entirely original; Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat.

  • someloser

I kinda liked steambolt, but it’d help so much if there was just a sword button. I know I know, simple controls but…
