Kotaku Game Club: Mr. Robot

Kotaku is starting up a “”http://kotaku.com/gaming/game-club/“>Game Club” where everyone plays a game and then discusses it, in intervals. The first game is Mr. Robot, and the first discussion will be held this Thursday. You’re expected to make it through the intro and the storage room by then.

Sounds fun! And now’s a good time to get a copy of the game if you haven’t already, since Moonpod is offering a 40% discount to people participating in the Game Club.

Great idea, and I applaud Kotaku for doing something like this.

I really quite liked this game up until the hacking bit with the JRPG random battles. That kind of gameplay really turns me off, but I can see its appeal so I’m sure loads of people will love it to bits.

The hacking stuff is mostly optional – you can often get around problems just through normal platforming gameplay.

I tried demo on my old computer, and I found this interesting, although I’m not so much into puzzles. Now I ordered it and I cannot get it to work on my new computer.

I believe I get it working soon. Have people enjoyed this game? Is there any game similar than mr. robot? Or is this something unique?

-B-: It borrows a lot from earlier isometric platform-puzzlers, such as Head over Heels, but it also adds JRPG-elements. So the full package is pretty unique, even though the individual components have all been seen before. AFAIK.

It’s a very good game, too. With that discount, it’s really a must-buy.

I have no luck running that game. Crashes at very start. Same thing if I try to access configuration.

But now worries – I hold my activation key and install that game to my wife’s computer or even put some old PC up and running.

I’m not a big fan of japanese rpg (I suppose JRPG means just that :)), but there really isn’t too many high quality indie games so this is must try.

11 euros is about one movie ticket, so not money at all.

I’m no fan of jrpgs either, but IMO MR. Robot takes what’s good about these games (addictive, turn-based combat and the quest for new levels for the characters) and leaves out the iffy parts.
