“Hi. I’ve never seen you before.”

    “I know.”

    *awkward silence*

  • konjak

Still borrows a lot from Eternal Daughter like Centaurus did. Visually.

    Very nice. Freeware?

  • Skyleak

    Did anybody else notice this…

    Nope, you’re the only one.

Guess that says something about you.

  • Raincoatduck

The little explosions after killing a guy really do look a lot like the ones from Eternal Daughter but this is still one seriously beautiful looking game.

  • fish

so what am i looking at, skyleak?

  • PoV

Big yellow outline shaped like a sausage? … the edible kind.

  • Pragma

Man, that is one tough-ass mushroom.

  • HandCraftedRadio

It looks to me like whoever was playing sucks at that game.

  • gustav

Or Alonso made it so hard even he can’t play it… Doesn’t bode well :(

  • Mruqe

Great effort, but he overdid the backgrounds. It just melts together with the foreground… makes it difficult to follow the gameplay. Apart from that – beautiful :)

  • renkin

Wow! Like a visually breathtaking ED. Get the gameplay aspects right and this is a winner. The mushroom taking like 15 hits but not providing any challenge at all makes me a bit worried, though. Is that just alpha stuff?

  • renkin

OK, I looked it up a bit on the website. I guess the mushroom thingy is just an easy high level enemy, which is fine. Seriously, this game is crazy ambitious. Story, Metroidish gameplay/progression, day/night cycle… Epic. Do make this happen. :)

  • Eudaimon

I abhor the idea that when you attack an enemy, and see the attack connect, somehow the game still may tell you that you missed. I really hope it only did that because of that one enemy’s shell, though even then it doesn’t seem like a “miss”, really.

    Looks beautiful, though, definitely.

  • colorFool

Ha, similar thoughts here. First thing that came to my mind was the similarity to ED, then the really tough and a bit lame mushroom and then missing, allhough visually hitting. That may work for a RPG, but here it seems quite odd.
Other than that, this could really be something!

  • axel

Yeah, the mushroom fight was a bit lame. I hope he’s putting as much work into balancing and finetuning the gameplay as he’s done with the graphics. Because, man, it looks beautiful!

  • John

The green area just before the waterfall and the waterfall itself indicate Super Metroid and SotN respectively, as concrete influences.

Looks a whole lot like ED. Too bad I didn’t like ED. Also, why the heck was that shroom so damn strong? Better have some phat loot to be that strong.

  • Melly

Graphics get an A. Double-jumping and exloration-focused platforming never goes out of style. Seriously, it doesn’t.

I too felt the MISS thing to not fit. In a game like this, missing or hitting an enemy is much more the job of the player’s skill in connecting attacks than a random number generator. It should be removed to prevent tons of frustration.

  • haowan

A miss means you’re too low level to hit the enemy. I believe. Zeroes would have the same effect but be less of an absolute indicator.

  • Advenith

As similar as it looks to ED, it reminds me more of Symphony of the night. I think it’s just the caves section that’s making me think that, though. Still, I love these sort of games. Can’t wait. :D

  • BigBossSNK

As an Alpha tester I can divulge that Alicia levels up (so seemingly impossible enemies will become a challenge later on) and she gains abilities as she advances in the game.
These are standard exploration – platformer conventions and don’t mean a game is in any way derivative. But HFA has a few aces up it’s sleeve to breath fresh air to the genre.
Let’s hope for a beta version soon.

  • Scarbir

    Oh
    My
    God

    That is more than beautiful.

  • Lord Don

I second the comments on the visuals. I’m surprised nobody mentioned the music as well. Very very atmospheric.

“Miss” means, I think, “ineffective,” which is quite acceptable. It’s a nice layer to add to the gameplay, I think.

I’m very excited to be doing a portion of the music (along with another musician.)
