Magi

I love wizard duels. I play Magic: the Gathering on occasion, and I love that shit. Just the idea makes me rock hard.

TeeGee’s wizard-dueling game Magi is the free giveaway today, for the next 10 hours or so. And if you enjoy the game, you should definitely consider sending some money the author’s way. It’s pretty fun!

  • Symbiotic

I’m having quite a bit of fun with this one.

  • MedO

Thanks for the hint, looks pretty neat after a quick try. I have to delay actual playing until tomorrow though (it’s 0:30 here), while downloading and installing sadly couldn’t wait.

  • sniping_dreamer

I downloaded it earlier today in GAOTD, not knowing if it’s really good or not. If TIG Source makes a post about it, so I’m betting it’s good. Looks like I’m gonna enjoy this one.

  • Verz

Played a demo of it a few months ago. It’s not that good, as far as strategy games go. But that’s just me.

  • Melly

I personally think that it is pretty good as far as strategy games go. Many of the spells look basic at first glance, but each has an unique effect, and it’s crucial to make good use of those effects unless you only hope to fight the weaker mages (beating mages more powerful than you earns much more exp, which make beating Death more manageable).

The fact that the game’s basically 1D (all the action plays on only one dimension between the mages) makes sure you can focus on which spells to use, counter, etc, without needless environment taking your attention away from the already complex spellcasting. It takes a bit to get used to it, but what strategy game doesn’t?

An enourmous issue though is the lack of online multiplayer. It’s just begging for it.

    I still greatly recommend.

  • Kenzya

    Oooh! Yeah, multiplayer!

Otherwise it is pretty good. I especially like the ease of queing and cancelling attacks. I might just be a fragile individual, but I enjoy being able to cancel and reselect spells as quickly as possible. I feel a lot better to be able to quickly strategize. Like if my shield broke I can cancel my 4 attacks and swarm and disease and queue the shield ;)

  • Lackey

You know I really like that your end goal in this is to very literally beat death.

  • rinkuhero

That’s what I like best about this game too — it’s a quest for immortality. Most games are just like ‘save the world! save your girlfriend!’ but this one is to live forever. As someone who thinks egoism has a bad reputation and likes Max Stirner, I think that’s refreshing.

  • Dan MacDonald

Reminds me of PvP in WoW :)

  • Jacob

Big, sweaty, beardy mages gettin’ it on make me all hot and bothered as well.

    I cast Lvl. 3 Eroticism.

  • Nuke

Thing kinda crashes on me when just trying to boot it up. Some other internet folks are having the same problem it seems, which is a shame since my interest was piqued.

  • MedO

Aight, I put on my robe and wizard hat. ;)

    Just contact me with a PM/email and I’ll send you a copy. I’m not a jerk ;).

(but please, don’t start “I downloaded, but haven’t installed too” flood, or I’m gonna get quite jerk-ish ;))

Only just spotted this in my RSS feed. Bugger… :-(

  • negative zero

    ah nuts, it’s over already!?

  • DrRetard

coulda sworn I checked tigsource under 15 hours ago, missed my chance…

  • AmnEn

Well, I missed it too. The time this was available was the time I was at sleep. Bad luck but meh, can’t be helped. The Trial is quite interesting though.

  • Karzon

Argh, I keep downloading these things and forgetting to install them by the deadline. No big deal in this case though, since I’ve played a demo of this game and hated it. Found it a nice idea that’s actually played as a mindless clickfest.

  • pkt-zer0

Eh, I have pretty mixed feelings about the game. Wouldn’t call it bad, wouldn’t call it good.

  • John

yeah I downloaded it and waited to install it too. what a bust.

  • Cycle

    uh yeah, me too.

    and so did my wife.
