Games For Windows

Games For Windows is fast becoming the most indie-friendly magazine around, what with its 3-page spread on Dwarf Fortress (yes!) a few months ago, and now this little write-up (scan) on Knytt. Go Nifflas!

And by the way, I had no idea Knytt was pronounced “KNIGHT.” I’ve been pronouncing it “KNIT” this whole time. I don’t think that’s gonna stop, either. Also, I’ve been pronouncing metanet‘s N as “CHEESEBURGER,” which I’m now worried is totally wrong.

And The Underside as “CAVE STORY.” (Ohsnapwtfbbqkekekekejk <3.)

(Thanks very much to The DMac for the news/scan!)

Dear god, the second paragraph reminds me of why I love it when you post.

  • Nikica

Hehe I LOL’D, Podunkian hates when somebody says that The Underside is like Cave Story !!!

  • Pnx

Really? I’ve been making that mistake too? Do you auppose my pronounciation of Dwarf Fortress (“WORLD’s GREATEST GAME”) is wrong too?

  • Skyleak

Yes Pnx; it is actually pronounced “Dorf fortress”

  • Benzido

Pnx: Seriously? that’s how I pronounce “toribash”

  • contra

    lol @ knight

  • Dusty Spur

I am totally going to still say KNIT.

  • gum

being from sweden, i can assure you that it’s NOT pronounced “knight”. more like “knit”.
it’s even more like “knytt”, though.

  • axel

Yar, he’s right. It’s Swedish, and it’s pronounced like “knit”, except with a strong “K”. But I guess Derek was being sarcastic anyway, so _WHO WANTS TO SING?!_

  • Cycle

Hey man, I wrote a three page indie article, a three page article on DEFCON and cover indie and freeware games each month, I even interviewed you Derek, why you gotta do this to me man, we’re totally the most indie-friendly magazine :(

  • Mr. Podunkian

    whoa, dude… not cool…

    not cool…

  • Noyb

No mention of Knytt’s atmosphere and music? Typical skepticism that all indies want is to be devoured by the corporate games machine? Okaaaay…

  • Cycle

We happened to us Derek, we used to be tight :( remember when we used to rock out all night, what happened to those days man? What happened?

  • Cycle

What happened, rather. Cursed lack of sleep!

  • Derek

Bro. We still tight. *fist pound*

  • larsiusprime

Yeah, I’m from Norway, and our language is pronounced almost exactly the same as Swedish, and I can definitely confirm that it’s pronounced “Knit.”

A lot of english words originally come from the Scandinavian langauges – pretty much anything with a KN in it came from the Vikings…

Knife, Knight, Knot, etc… and in the original Scandinavian, those all had hard, not silent, K’s.

I think it was the later Norman french influence that swallowed the “K’s”

  • konjak

I am Swedish and in no way is “knytt” literaly pronounced like “knight” from a Swedish standpoint.

  • konjak

Adding to that: Personally, I’ve been reading it like an English person would: “nit”.

  • Mizumon

LOL’d at the Underside pronunciation. ^o^”

  • Sergio

Pronunciation of Knytt is something I believe Nifflas is asked a lot… If I remember rightly (I probably don’t) it is said “knit” but the k sound isn’t completely silent or something.

It is with a hard “k”… afaik. There is even an audio of Nifflas saying it.

  • Nikica

It’s “knjit” and Dwarf Fortress is “GREATEST GAME IN UNIVERSE” !!!

  • haowan

    KERNIT THE FROG

  • whitebrice

You guys know that Nikujin got a mention in the latest issue of Retro Gamer with tigsource as the download link, right?

  • negative zero
