JADE

Thomas Biskup has released some screenshots and a video of JADE, the sequel to his popular roguelike, Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM). While the video isn’t terribly exciting, it does show off the game’s awesome zoom feature, which is used to great effect to reveal a massive human settlement.

In his post, Biskup admits the game (currently at version 0.0.7), is “woefully incomplete” and that he intends to shift gears soon and focus on gameplay issues over engine improvements.

    Two words:
    HELL YES.

My first ever 3D engine (in qbasic, no less) was for a game I had dubbed “JADE”. True story!

When I got to the part where he zooms out and you see the size of the city, my jaw dropped. It’s only done that twice before.

  • Sigh

Maybe I’m missing something, but what’s so great about a big, empty city that’s laid out in a rather dubious fashion. Frankly, the towns in ADOM were already more empty than playable.

JADE has been entirely overtaken by Dwarf Fortress. It’s only advantage is that it’s turnbased.

Dwarf Fortress.. Great concept, But I found that game rather unplayable.. To this date adom is still my favorite roguelike And I am looking forward to the initial release of jade by Thomas Biskup.
