You’ve seen those 100 games in 10 minutes videos, right? There are NES versions, SNES versions, C64 versions, and loads more I’m sure.
Over the last couple of weeks Paul Eres has put together a brilliant Game Maker equivalent! A list of all 100 games is available on the GMC thread.

[edit] What the hell, Vimeo? Man, I used to think you guys were cool.

now you can caption or annotate the vid with the game names!

    And provide download links again!

  • Circy

Aww man I was toying with the idea with doing this, but for Clickteam games… and then I saw this brilliance.

Still, might give it a go anyway :)

Did Vimeo just pull a Hitler on Video Games? “Videos of Games are not art, thus we ban them”.

  • linde

Pull a Hitler? It’s their site and they can have whatever submission guidelines they want. It’s not your /right/ to use Vimeo; it’s a privilege.

Vimeo is a site for creative content by its users, and while this video may be awesome, the creative effort from the author is debatable. Sure, it’s a lot of work to capture and put together the different parts, but nothing was really added to what was captured.

    Godwin’s law, heh.

“Game Maker is a program by Yoyo games used for uh… Making games. Find it at http://www.yoyogames.com/make

It’s not “by Yoyo games”. It’s by Mark Overmars. That’s important. They’re just publishing it and gave it a better internet presence.

Mailman: You did so in your second post as well.

  • Francis

Anyone got the source of the chiptune at the beginning? I love it!

Also tried a number of these games, such as TheBoomlands, Quiescance, Crypt of Despair, and Lux, and with all of them they had an executable application which when run, would sit there and not respond, only taking up RAM until I ended the process, I use Windows Vista, so maybe that has something to do with it. But its disheartening being unable to play over half these games. Any idea what might be the problem?

  • Paul Eres

Francis: you must be running Vista. Use the Vista converter on the games before running them. Game Maker 6 games don’t work on Vista without it.

  • Paul Eres

Also, linde, there are arguably creative aspects in deciding which 6 seconds to use, in deciding which games to use, in playing the game while recording it (sometimes it needs to be played creatively in order to get good footage), in arranging them in a particular order in order, in matching particular scenes to the music, etc. But I’m not arguing against Vimeo deleting it, they can delete whatever they want, but it wasn’t just automatic mechanical thinking which produced this, there were plenty of creative decisions involved.
