Minecraft Halloween Update Released

The almighty Notch has released a beefy update to Minecraft today that offers, among other things, an otherworldly new area with new block types and monsters. There are also “biomes”, which is a fancy word for different environment types (see the above video).

Notch also revealed that the “secret pixel artist” his company is hiring is none other than junkboy, the man responsible for this awesome series of demakes. Junkboy will be joining Oxeye Studios‘ Jeb and one other programmer on the talented new team that will be working on both Minecraft and an unannounced new game.

Whatever the secret project is, I think Notch should follow his so-far-successful business model and start charging for it now WAAAAAY before it's released. Then we'll all buy it and tell our friends to buy it and he can hire like TWO more people. : )

@ Frank: I hardly think that any sort of stealing was involved.

Although, on a side note, the blocky-ness really didn't do well in my opinion during the nite scenes. That's a bit of a hinderence in my view. Just as my own personal opinion.

Zach could've gotten some of that action if he'd actually followed up, instead of freaking out about cheaters, shutting down the server, and removing all evidence that his game ever existed.

I heard about Infiniminer after playing Minecraft for a bit. I was ready to love it until I discovered that you can't actually, y'know, play it anymore (without jumping through a bunch of hoops). That's kind of an important criterion for a successful game.
