Bashanomics

Toribash, the amazing 3D, turn-based ragdoll fighting game just keeps getting bigger and better! We covered this game almost a year ago, and its great to see it thriving.

GameSetWatch reports that the game has introduced virtual credits into their online community, creating a virtual economy based on buying and selling everything from custom body parts to forum sig graphics to stories written about the various clans that have arisen around the game. Man, I love this kind of stuff… the idea of clans, histories, and economies emerging from these little game worlds drives me nuts.

I met Hampa, one of the creators, at GDC this year, and he’s also a really nice guy. Good game, good people. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should.

    Tee hee, fix’d! :)

I’d buy this if I had 2 other people to talk into buying it with me and I hadn’t just bought Panel de Pon DS.

I just spent the last two hours playing this game. Damn TIGsource. I get less and less sleep before work nowadays.

“And I was so sure it was 3d!”

Uh…. It is 3d… Mabey you should actually play the game before commenting :D

  • NHP

he was responding to the fact that the original post had a typo saying the game was 2D

If only they had a decent tutorial, so you could do something besides writhing spastically on the floor. They did have walkthroughs for a few simple moves, but nothing to teach you how to make your own.

How can someone teach someone how to make his own stuff?
It’s more like “You can try your own stuff until you get a result”, don’t expect a “start with this and then, you can do whatever you want”

Writhing on the floor is an effective combat tactics. I mean, as long as your opponent is a mental patient. A DEADLY MENTAL PATIENT 2: RETURN OF THE RETURNING RETURNER’S RETURN.

This game is great. I remember winning by tearing my own legs off and then jumping towards the enemy somehow using the dismembered legs.

    Well, I must be different.

    I’ve just watched the gamevideo,
and I couldn’t be less interested in playing it.

I find the violence (even though the figures are stylised)
    to be quite disturbing.

    I know they’re just polygons – I’m no Jack Thompson –
but to me, they’re just suggestive enough (of real humans)
to make me feel a bit queasy.

Sure – some might point out that my own retro remake is violent,
but unlike Toribash, it has no blood, no sickening ripping apart of bodies. (however cartoonish)

A turn-based beat em up is certainly an interesting game idea..
    I’m not putting down the creators;
just saying that this game’s really not my thing.

it’s an ok game, but by no means worth spending money on, i feel.

I really enjoyed what I’d played of it, but it’s pretty damn hard to get into. If there was some kind of tutorial that eased you into the process that’d be pretty neat, but I remember crowding round the lappy with my two brothers having to watch the quicktime mov’s on the site to actually figure out how to beat the crap out of anyone. Honestly though we just gave up after a while, it turned out to be much funnier to watch the replays everyone else had made, self decapitation is always a good’un…
