The Last Stand

The Last Stand is a “defend the castle” type game with zombies, so if that sounds fun to you, try it! It’s short (20 rounds), it’s easy, and it’s pretty fun. The graphics are good.

I notice there are no minorities in the game. Why is that? I thought they would have at least thrown a token black guy into the survivor pool. Geez.

I’m sure the that leaving out the token black go is a sign of pure racism, we better alert the authorities. How else can you explain it when no black, yellows, or reds, appear in a game where the main character is so minor that he could be replaced by a floating gun and it would be just as exciting.

But seriously, who said anything about racism. I’m just surprised that no minorities survived the zombie attack. They’re quite resourceful in times of crisis, I hear. ;)

I quite enjoyed this, but completed it on my second go. It’s a good framework for a game, but it’s a pity they didn’t do something more ambitious with it.

Beat it on my first go, never got under 75%. Maybe it runs tons faster on faster cpus? Or maybe I’ve gotten jaded from playing too many fps’s? Also, the shotguns aren’t that great to use, which is always a tragic event in zombie games.

Still a good game afterall. Would’ve liked something to do after beating the (too short and easy) game though.

finished it on the first go… way too easy, after you’re done getting all the weapons you can get a barrett… click the map and you will select it… big bleeping sniper rifle …

You’re just making the point that diversity is some how appeased by token races (insert whatever one you like), the whole point is that token race icons are just as stupid as ignoring the fact that there are more races than white. If they were to insert a race just because someone got offended by it then that’s just as arbitrary as pretending the world is white. I don’t see how it’s a valid complaint that a small band of survivors is all one race, yes it happens to be white, would you have said anything had they been all black? It’s the same obnoxious argument in academic papers these days that the pronoun he is politically incorrect, so you either have to use he/she or one. For fucks sake, they’ve all got a use, but requiring one to appear just to appease some idea of racial politics is silly.

I was being sarcastic about the “token black guy” thing, and was making fun of the fact that people do put in a black person just to add “diversity.” That was my main point. So actually I, a non-white, agree with you… how about that?

But if they had all been black, I would have noticed, hell yeah. And I think it’d be awesome if they were all black because it never ever happens that way. Seriously, wouldn’t that be great? It’d be _innovative_.

And as obnoxious as those knee-jerk academics are, keep in mind that if your knee jerks the other way, it’s still jerking.

Eh, well if you were being sarcastic in the post I missed it, you’re “Geez” seems to say otherwise, but if that’s what ya meant, it’s what ya meant. And that was sorta my point, asking for token blacks or anything else was a knee-jerk in the other direction. I’m not trying to get a knee-jerk in any direction, it actually seemed to me like you were, but like I said, I apologize if I misunderstood you.

The thing is, I _did_ notice that they were all white, and I _do_ notice when there are no minorities in games. Of course, it depends on the context, but where I live, I walk around and I see all kinds of people. And because I’m asian, I do like seeing asian characters and I can identify with asian characters. That’s not being PC, is it? That’s just how I feel.

That said, I agree with you that it’s dumb to just throw in a black or hispanic or asian person in there just to make it seem “diverse.”

If zombies attacked the town I grew up in, or for that matter almost any town under 3000 people in the entire midwest, the only survivors are gonna be WASPs, and the only victims will be WASPs. Heck, even the zombies will probably say grace before they start in on the next pasty guy’s brains!

Anyway, yeah, I would love to see some all-black games. or failing that, at least some white guys in blackface.

I enjoyed this a great deal.

Btw, there are tonnes of anime in which the entire cast of characters are entirely Asian, and even in cases where there are other races protrayed, they still looks distinctively Asian in appearance other than hair color or skin color.

I remember one of those tips (“Note to self”) saying that “Some zombies carry weapons which you can use” — am I supposed to be able to pick them up? Or does that just an indicator for the sort of weapons that I can find later on in the game?

The thing I like, is how a joke made by the OP turns into the only course of discussion about this game.

At this point Zombie games of this nature are like a bad cup of coffee from a late night diner. Sure, they are all a little different, and sure we keep ordering them, but does anyone really ever say “god damn that was a good cup of joe!” no.

I guess this is the equivalent of a slow news day around here

If you don’t ever go searching for guns you get the 357 and shotgun automatically after some early stages. The soldiers carry m4s but never give them to you.

Uh, I have no idea what “owning” I did, but I mentioned Night of the Living Dead for three reasons:

1) zombies
2) black hero
3) Romero said his race had nothing to do with getting hired, he simply gave the best audition.

i kinda like having a culturally diverse cast of characters…so long as it isn’t put in a cheezy fashion, or if they’re just there to balance the white/black/asian/whatnot ratio. i personally would find that rascist (and in bad taste).

Gears of War did that though, but it wasn’t cheezy…just ironic, since they all played their part fairly well.

but i digress, this game was piss easy. i found it hard letting my defenses drop below 95%. is there some secret ‘hard’ difficulty or something?

Great game, too easy. Whoever said the shotguns were useless wasn’t using the sawn off. Thanks to that one, most of the zombies never made it to the barricade, it was fun watching their heads explode too.

The default shotgun is neat, that is… if you exploit the reload glitch. As soon as the reload starts, press esc (menu). The animation will run through… and after that press esc again to continue.
