For the next 10 hours, Immortal Defense will still be available for free at Game Giveaway of the Day. There are a few restrictions, however, according to the developer, rinkuhero:

"Although it’s the full version of the game, there are some restrictions: they tell me (I haven’t actually confirmed this) that it can only be installed once.

Also, anyone who gets it free from that site will not have access to future patches of the game (which will include new levels, a medals system, level modding, new music, a graphics upgrade, and so on)."

Just another step in rinku’s ongoing experiment with indie game marketing, the results of which you can read about here on his forums.

Update: It’s over, y’all.

Hmm, while tempting to pay for that kind of extra content, I’m not really a firm believer in holding people to their word. In a mainstream context, what happened to Sin Episodes? We had one game?

I don’t mean to say that game isn’t worth it, from what I’ve played so far of the full version it is pretty fun (It must get pretty knackering at the end levels though, I haven’t even passed the first episode), it’s just getting the game for free legally leaves me to wonder whether it’s worth paying for less content then a first-time buyer would be receiving. Maybe an upgrade price instead of buying it? Sort of like what happened with Jets’n’Guns and it’s Gold expansion.

I don’t know, it’s an interesting experiment at least, and I never thought you could have an interesting story in a game where you kill enemies travel on a line. It’s definitely worth playing, and an awesome way to spend your time since the full game seems huge, I just don’t know if giving people the game for free is a great way to buy it, but certainly if they look at it and go ‘Oh crap, I missed a free game? Well what was it… ohhhhh’.

Hmm, on second thoughts, I’m more interested in the marketing technique than the game now, haha.

1- Website says “visitors will only receive the program after downloading a special verification program” . Doesn’t inspire me very much to download this potential spyware on my computer.
2- RinkuHero game’s is waaayyy above the usual offers on this site and…
3- I don’t know if this was avery good marketing strategy because I don’t think that Giveaway of the day is attracting a very good quality of audience, just…
4- Check out the OMG STUPID comments from the freeloaders there, it seems that using this website is as valuable as uploading your game to 4 chan.

You can install it as many times as you want, as long as you install it before the free game offer date passes … after that you’ll be doomed. ;)

I’m tempted to get it today, but I want to buy it for reals when I have time to play it all through.

    Bah!

  • Neon

This is like all the clones that don’t require a download except it isn’t played in browser and has flashy lights. Big whoop.

  • Moose

    .. And it’s got a fantastic story. :)

It’s much different than all the clones, in this one, you can’t just make and upgrade towers and watch them kill to win.
