Ainevoltas 2

Ainevoltas 2 is a fairly recent release from Alastair “alspal” Jack, the creator of Final Vision. If you played the latter you can expect a similar experience – simple platforming with a very basic story and some RPG elements. That doesn’t sound like much, but FV was a fun game and so is this. The simplicity and brevity of both games definitely works in their favor. I also rather enjoy the deadpan dialogue.

In Ainevoltas 2 there are four main stats you can upgrade: health, strength, recover, and jump. It’s pretty straightforward, but at a certain point you can join a guild and it becomes more interesting from then on. There are other surprises in the game which should tickle you with their surprisiness.

Enjoy!

TIGdb: Entry for Ainevoltas 2

  • First Post Getter

    My post is first.

Your posts are all beneath mine. My is the first post. You all read me! I am the firstling! Haaa Haaa Haaa You are not!

  • corpus

You are what is wrong with the world.

  • Carlz0r

There’s this weird glitch in the game where recovery doesn’t always work… I’m in the second screen of this castle place you come to near the begining of the game, and my recovery stopped working for a while.. it seemed to fix itself when I went from one screen to another, but then it stopped working again, and I can’t get it to work anymore.

  • AmnEn

Yeah, there is the recovery bug and there is also a Stats bug. The stats thing you can get when you have 9 in recovery resets everytime you come back to that screen. So unlimited stats I guess :/

  • Bajatar

    A word of advice:
Do not trust the tutorial signs!

  • Tinarg

Is there a full screen mode?

  • Avatared

No this is old news. Very old news.

  • http://htpp://www.nosignalinput.co.uk Tom

Well Avatared, unfortunately some of us aren’t clued into every single game that gets released on the Internet.

  • Neddo

This game is a lot of fun, but it’s extremely buggy. Weird graphical glitches abound, and I’ve just run into a problem where I’m suddenly unable to attack or duck; my character is can still move but is frozen in a standing position. Teleporting or moving to another screen fixes it for a short time, but then it happens again.

  • Mark

In case anyone wants the first one, I found it here:
    http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f2255.html

It is not available on the author’s site, for whatever reason.

  • Exoduster

Is anyone suffering from really random bouts of slowdown? I mean, my PC can run Half Life 2, it really shouldn’t have any problem with Ironic Pixel RPG 2.

  • Codemonkey

It’s actually a really, really fun game to play when you have some spare time. :)

  • Chaos Theory

I’m enjoying the game so far, but I’m not having any of the problems anyone else has brought up, mine’s much worse.

The game just crashes every couple of minutes. I think it crashes when it tries to save, because when I restart, it’s in the exact same state just before the crash, only I’m at the start of that map.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

  • raigan

Really awesome, but I’ve gotten the “can’t duck/talk” bug, as well as sometimes my attacks seem to not register (seems like it happens mostly with frogs — I’m hitting them, but they’re ignoring me).

    Still, great style.

  • JohnA

So I beat the guy with the skull without a guild, and the game just ended and now my save is gone. WTF? Was that the end?

  • Y0tta

Just started, and I’m already loving it like I did Final Vision.

    “You’re the Prophet of Truth!”

    “Yeah… get over it.”

  • Neddo

JohnA… yeah, that’s it. The game ends suddenly as soon as you beat the boss. However, if you go to New Game, there should be a trophy on the slot where you beat it. Start a new game in that slot for a little bonus.

  • haowan

    This is great.

  • Derek

Wow, I didn’t run into any of the bugs you guys mentioned… I noticed a water tile that was out of place, but that’s about it.

  • Kris

Wooh, go Richter! It was well worth playing the game again.. ;D

  • dumbtard

i had to play through 3 times before i figured out how to get richter…
it was so much fun though! richter’s a blast too!

  • Kris

I wonder how many quests there are? I stopped at the “Cheer up Sad Guy” quest because I accidentally beat the final boss while exploring..

  • vic

    This game was delightful.

I also got the unable to recover bug many times. At some point my character started glitching graphically, then vanished (only a shadow seen). I couldn’t attach or anything.

For those of you on the “second quest” press up + attack for a nice surprise.

  • muku

Loved it. The ending is too abrupt though.

But this is *so* worth playing through a second time. The first time, I only won. The second time, I got married, had a child (who’s pretty kickass by the way) and became guildmaster! Way to go. There are so many great secrets hidden in this game…

@Kris: The cheering up quest is the last one.

  • alspal

@ Exoduster, make sure you unzip the game. Or it will cause massive lag.

  • kumi

This game won’t even start on my Windows XP SP1 system. The little Silvernova windows pops-up for 1/2 a second, then the executable exits.

  • JohnA

Just played through it again and went backwards. Did getting different wifes matter?

It was a fun game, short, but fun.

  • alspal

if you have a wife you can make a child.

  • raigan

are the children different depending on the wife?

using “down” to talk to the kid is a mistake, it should be a menu option.. like a gem.

  • alspal

    thanks for the idea!

  • Davide “Gendo Ikari” Mascolo

It’s more of a remake of the first Ainevoltas: it takes place in the exact same castle, and most of the layout of the levels is unchanged, just with better graphics. They, however, fixed what didn’t work well: for example, it is necessary the develop the jumping ability as soon as possibile, or in case you proceed too further, you are unable to backtrack until you level up. Originally, the Jump had 25 levels, making the building of this skill extremely tedious. Now, it is the only stat which is complete at level 12 already, you’ll need just a few minutes to max it. In A1 the main character had a lame whip, in A2 he wields a much better sword, but with the second extra character you can re-enact the original gameplay (better implemented, obviously). And finally, the Guild is a great addiction.

Short and easy (relies too much on the ability to regenerate HP just by ducking), but really fun to play and finish at least three times. I hope for a third episode to further expand the formula.

  • adam

    This game is pretty cool.
I like how the dialogue kind of makes fun of itself.
Is there any secret with the hooded magician guy that you fight behind one of the stat walls? Can you do something where you don’t end up fighting him?

  • raigan

Really great game. If only randomly-generated platformer levels weren’t such a hard problem..

  • superdigg

Would anyone care to spoil the process of unlocking Richter? I’m on my second playthrough, and while I have immensely enjoyed figuring out the rest of the secrets (I -think- I have them all!), I can’t figure out how to get Richter!

  • superdigg

    Whoops, nevermind!

  • Raven

I still can’t figure out how one goes about unlocking Richter.

  • Andy

the game crashes immediately when i try to play it, strangely enough. i seem to have this problem quite often with mmf2 games. D:

  • Neddo

I’m not sure exactly how one unlocks Richter, but I was able to play as him after getting a gold trophy when beating the game. Just try to accomplish everything you can: become guildmaster, get married and have a child, beat all the enemies, that kind of thing. You may also have to talk to Richter in order to unlock him; you can find him by climbing up above the Guild hall.

  • David

For me, I just beat the game twice. When I beat the game once, I didn’t even know how to join the guild and I played as the main dude’s brother. Then I beat it again with guild master and all sorts of stuff, and I played as richter.

I got three gems, (ins,xp,crit) does anyone know where to get the fourth?

Is it possible to play as your child!?!?

  • Neddo

The gem you’re missing is the blue gem that increases strength by 25%. It’s in a jar at the top of the end of the Dining Room. You need a high Jump stat to reach it.

  • juv3nal

how do you join the guild? I talk to the guy who asks if you want to join for 100xp (which I have) and z,x,ctrl, enter all won’t let me pick either yes or no and I end up having to close the game.

  • juv3nal

ah never mind. I’m an idiot.

  • vic

I believe marrying a different girl gets you a kid with a different weapon. The first time he had a sword, and I picked a different one the next time who had an axe.

The sword and axe sure do make a pleasant *kersplat!* sound
