Positech Games released Kudos 2 recently, so, yeah, have at.

The game’s a sequel to their possibly-popular life-sim Kudos (which I think Rockstar was a spin off of?). The main change to the sequel, to my knowledge, is that they hired an artist to vector them up some non-undead (which I guess would go back to being dead? It’s a conundrum since the graphics are good and livin’) graphics.

And uh, that tells you nothing about the game, so, it’s like the Sims only instead of having a family of people who pee themselves and catch on fire, you play from a first person perspective and spend all your money making your friends hate you because you go bowling too much.

The game has a lot of charm, as a sim game should, and it’s easy to get hooked. It might seem shallow at first, with very little to do, but in the minimal GUI there’s a lot of depth: many activities do more than the basic “you did this all day, you get 14 heart points”, and you unlock new activities, make more friends, and piss more friends off with time.

So, yeah, check it out.

  • Troy RULES

I don’t have $20 bucks to blow on a 2D version of The Sims! Someone share this thing.

    Troy: Aww… man…

  • Cas

    Twat!

  • Nels Nelson

I didn’t like the Sims – too much chaos – but I really enjoyed the (generous) demo for this. It looks as though it will have a ton of replayability.

I just bought it, and my only disappointment is that you can’t upgrade the demo, or import a save, which means having to start a new game.

  • Pyrrhon

Everything about this article confuse me . The title… the un-undead… im just so confused right now :(

  • Bowl of Snakes

I bought it when it came out, I definitely dig it. But yeah, I need to look up some strategies to advanced beyond drunk working stiff.

Pyrrhon: I think he’s referring to the other Kudos games, which had weird looking pre-rendered characters

  • RayRayTea

I actually like the character art a lot (can’t really say the same for interface organization). … but more importantly, I have the feeling the author prefers dogs over cats (last screenshot on game’s site)!!! Definitely an instant No Buy.

  • RayRayTea

    Er, hihi I was wrong… nevermind ^^;;;

  • http://hideou.se/ Hideous

This doesn’t really look that interesting to me. Not my type of game, I guess.

  • Mr. Period

More, commas, != a more, readable post, that doesn’t make the eyes bleed, not even one little bit, nope, nope, nope.

  • RayRayTea

    Sorry! I will improve.

  • Paul Eres

Troy, don’t turn TIGSource into one of those “put up a torrent quick hurr hurr” sites :(

This is a good game, I like the new art, but I prefer more philosophical and moral depth, like Alter Ego. I bought Democracy 2, also by this author, but I probably won’t buy this one because it’s geared toward a more casual audience than his other games. Can’t please everyone, I guess.

  • Deacon Blues

The art is a huge improvement.

Unfortunately, it seems to be pretty much the only thing they improved. They even removed the Security job category, which means I need to make an effort to get a decent job now.

  • Troy RULES

You’re too late, Paul. The revolution is underway, and I, for one, welcome our new pirate overlords.

  • Spriteattack

Deacon Blues one of the main changes to game was a more user-friendly visual approach – character art, colour scheme, ui interface and layout. The earlier version was cornered in the hardcore gamer section – due to the sometimes confusing UI approach. There are a lot of changes in the gameplay that are not standing out that much but overall it’s a “Kudos revisited”.

  • Deacon Blues

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I like it, but other than the graphics, it barely contains enough material to justify an in game update, let alone another $20 game.

Although I actually thought the basic interface in the first game was easier to use, but much less pretty.
