Shadow Break, by Bunaguchi

Shadow Break (direct download) is fun freeware action game with a unique take on Breakout – ninjas and other opponents are trapped in the blocks and can be released to the ground to slay with your sword. Aside from slashing and jumping, your character also has an invincible dash and ninjitsu techniques that let you, for example, freeze the ball in place. After defeating all the enemies in a level, the remaining blocks are converted to coins.

Quite a polished little Japanese indie title. I like the variety in the enemies and bosses.

What exactly is the first power that gets unlocked on the Ninjitsu bar?  I can’t seem to activate it under any circumstances, and don’t see any performance modifications.

You don’t need to watch Naruto to know common Japanese terms, especially when it comes to writing something as important as your games description. Sloppy. Funny tho that you know the exact amount of Naruto episodes.

Correcting a Japanese guy on a crappy romanized spelling of his native language is kinda a dick thing to do.

  • Guest

Not really. It only takes a second or two to Google the word if you’re unsure how to spell it.

  • 小次郎

     これはインディーゲームではありません。
    This is not “indie” game.

Please do not be racist about Japanese.

  • Guest

Who cares? Why do you care? Why are most of the comments about this?

  • Renaud B.

Calling someone a “crappy foreigner” and addressing him in a language he doesn’t understand isn’t exactly respectful either.

Anyway, I’m genuinely sorry about that previous comment, the fact I didn’t even bother to post as anon shows I was either drunk or very tired (I know this doesn’t excuse anything/makes it worse)

Like many 20-somethings I was heavily influenced by japanese culture and spent a lot of time trying to defend it against people who were rejecting it. I even wrote an article lamenting the Americanization of japanese companies such as Capcom not too long ago.Again, sorry for being an occasional dick.

  • Cypress_dahlia

Except it’s originally spelled in a different language. The English version of the word is just a poor imitation of the original phonetics lol. Do you get what I’m saying? So getting on a Japanese dude’s nuts about how to spell a Japanese word in English, is retarded in four million different ways.
