The great thing about running this site is that I’m forced to play every type of game. I can go from playing a soothing Orisinal game where I’m helping deer cross a stream to being a disgusting mutant with radioactive piss, hunting for meat in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. And you know what? Both have their place in this little world of indie gaming.
Here’s the recipe for Atomic Butcher: take a platformer that smacks of old Apogee shareware. Then add mouse aiming, cheesy sound effects, and some kind of industrial techno soundtrack. Top it off with a particle system that lets you pee into a fan and have it sprayed back into your face.
Honestly, this is a pretty fun, gruesome game, and with 10 large levels it offers a lot of very gory, simplistic gameplay. The terrifying graphics and overall presentation work with the theme of violence to create an atmosphere of true horror. I leave you with a quote from the developers (found in the online manual for the game):
“If you think this is a stupid and unnecesarilly [sic] violent concept for a game, you are right and paid attention; congratulations, you now understand a lot about the current state of computer games.”
